Some crazy rainfall totals across South Yorkshire!

Its currently still 14c here at 3am yet one of my weather stations 70 miles west in the Yorkshire Dales is showing 3c!

Interestingly enough Netweather Radar is showing snow falling across the tops of the highest mountains which would be the earliest I can ever record snow falling across North Yorkshire.

This comes shortly after the earliest widespread ground frost the county has seen (31st August).

Should have been an amber warning for Sheffield Rotherham areas and I suspect across into East Yorkshire as well. More Rain possibly Sunday.

Yes, I would have thought that warranted Amber. Conditions were awful, especially

around 1.30am.  Very strong winds and 2" of rain after at least 11 hours of heavy rainfall.

Yup warning for wind not needed but rainfall needed badly with flooding in sheffield and other areas of sheffield. Rainguage nearly overfilled here with 70.5mm of rain. look at the old rain bottle. The line at the top of the bottle is rainfall.

Was quite windy here last night, kept me awake. Must have sounded worse than it was though because our gazebo still standing this morning albeit with a little tear on a seam that I have just patched.

Not much rain here overnight but it rained heavily most of yesterday afternoon and evening.

National news gets it wrong for Sheffield. We got just over a months rainfall in less than 24 hours. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45588463

What everyone forgets about 2007 was the wet period. There was a lot more rain on the 14th of July but little in the way of flooding however it rained nearly everyday up until the 25th. The river sheaf didn't even flood on the 25th Heeley Bridge flooded due to blocked drains and I know that because I was there and the Bridge inn cellar didn't flood which it does when the sheaf breaks it's banks. We are already past the the amount of rainfall according to the Davis but it's been a dry month until now. I wouldn't call it another 2007 the weather pattern is different although more rain is forecast tonight so we may push 60 to 70mm and looking at the Radar looks like another heavy pulse is coming so we may beat that. Have a look hear for heavy rain events since 1989 and there's quiet a few of them and they occur a lot more regularly than one thinks. http://www.sheffieldweather.co.uk/Averages/Heaviest_Rainfall_From_1989.pdf

You are right about that and what i found with 2007 was just how heavy that rain was too it was like a tropical monsoon.

Well everywhere drying up again the gardens drying out and out walking on top the ground was cracking up again. No sign of any real rain in the outlook either although GFS was promising a little Monday night into Tues the local forecast says nay.

Hey guys  As the days become shorter and the temperature slowly drops away I know it’s still a couple of months away until we are officially back into winter and hopefully snow. But does anyone have any predictions for this coming winter???

Spent all day in a t-shirt whilst working around Sheffield, quite a pleasant day. When I left Killamarsh at 3.30pm there was a 8c temp drop on my drive back to depot in Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire.

Its my Saturday in tomorrow and South Yorkshire is looking bleak!

First air frost here after a low of -0.1c, also the 4th ground frost this season.

Everything seems to be around a month ahead of schedule, hopefully not a curse for snow this winter.

That was a treat of an early morning ..
Beautiful orange sunrise skies and in the opposite direction a strongly coloured

double rainbow.   ☺️

All grey now and just starting to rain.
