Hello all, just joined but been a lurker for a year or so. I'm in the sticks a couple miles north of Brigg in North Lincs.

We seemed to have missed most of the snow this winter, got nothing in December and only a light covering from Beast1, very poor compared to 2010 where we had 18" of snow on lawn for a month with overnight temps as low as minus 20.

Oddly we've seen more snow today than we have all winter, a steady stream of snow/graupel showers roughly 20 mins apart since 7am this morning. Sadly melting almost as soon as the sun re-appears but have been impressive to watch due to the very strong wind forming mini blizzards in the garden.

Hoping we get some laying snow overnight so the kids have a chance of sledging. We are in the amber warning area so fingers crossed for something tonight.

Welcome to the thread :)

Yes does look best for south yorkshire, lincolnshire and more southern parts of east yorkshire this evening/tonight but I'm pretty confident all areas should atleast see a covering by the morning.

Hints of the wind becoming a little more E than NEE, the more E we can get it the better chances for west yorkshire as this conveyer belt of showers (hull to sheffield) should focus a little further north.

It certainly keeps snowing here from passing showers, slight recover each time then the sun gets to work, never more than 0.5 cm except where it gets blown. Drops the visibility to fog limits on the heavier bursts. A mix of thick flakes in one shower and mainly snow grains in another.

Temperatures like a yo-yo, a low of -1C and a high of 1.8 C, currently -0.4 C.

You think it's looking good for once for us in Doncaster John? Starting to settle now

Well yet again York seems to be in the gap between the lines of showers to the north and south and has been most of the day. It’s strange that this always seems to happen, but at least the sun/wind will be helping to dry the ground after a very wet couple of weeks

The showers appear to be moving more east to west now, just ever so slightly. Been a lovely sunny day here. No snow since mid morning.

Hope so. The NE element hasn't really worked for us in our area....

Yes, and it was possible to get a slight tan today too with a UV index of 2. 8)

Agree with a poster above that the wind has turned more straight easterly. Tops of the showers now headed for Leeds.

Just had a heavy shower which left another dusting. The wind during the showers is something else though, its just taken out my garden fence!

Yes Leeds definitely in the firing line as the wind starts to veer slightly more easterly.

Yep, I've watch one shower travel thru centre of hornsea. It's now just passed thru Wakefield and South Dewsbury. Currently anything between hornsea and brid should hit most of West Yorkshire.

Thank you for the welcomes :-)

I popped out for some shopping just as the latest heavy shower started. It has lasted 25 minutes so far and is very heavy. Blizzard conditions on the rural lanes, poor visibility and surprisingly slippy, quite deceptive considering it was bright sunshine half hour ago. Now -1.2c here and already a 5-10mm layer of graupel over garden and road.

The north sea is covered in massive clusters of heavy snow showers which will spread across Yorkshire this evening and tonight..could be some big falls as well as drifting in the strong Ely winds..about as wintry as it gets at this time of year!:D⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄❄❄❄❄❄❄

Thoughts on areas that may do particularly well ?  is the amber warning for south yorks justified

Loads of icicles out there now, just like few weeks back. Sure sign that we've had an ice day :)

Met office app now showing heavy snow for me from 8pm to 4am. I'll take it with a pinch of salt but it's the most it has shown so far this cold spell.
