You know that the amber warning is really meant for north east england. We normally do ok when an amber is issued over yorkshire.

Doesn't take much for those organised snow showers drift a bit further north than forecast...

24 hours is a long time:good:

Yep. Amber warnings are the kiss of death for snow chances! The number of times amber warnings for snow in my area have been wrong far outweigh those that have been correct.

Whatever happens is a bonus as I assumed the snow last week would be the end of winter!

Totally agree, been in the posh seats too many times to be moved back into Economy.

Many people believe there is more chance of snow at Easter than at Christmas. Certainly, snow at this time of year is not uncommon. Below are statistics from the Met Office:

Month                  Average Days of Snow

November                          1.7

December                           3.9

January                                7.6

February                              6.8

March                                   4.2

April                                       2.3

Anyone understand why the bbc forecast for Tadcaster is vastly different to the Met office?

Meant to be making a trip from Todmorden to Tadcaster and back tomorrow!

Hi. It's because the BBC no longer use met office for their forecasts. They lost the contract and so is now from MeteoGroup for TV, radio and website.

Met still provide warning details though on BBC, very confusing lol!

First change in the weather I think next band out in the North Sea is showing as sleet not rain which has been lingering around all day, can anyone check the wind direction is it changing?

2 weeks is a long time in weather world, plenty of time for things to change.

No reason to care, just pointing out how many times lately you had an amber warning for snow for it not to happen in reality and a neighbouring county gets it instead...

It is then a plessure to read all the doom n gloom from this thread.

Of course all in bants

Suppose your right to be fair but latest update shows Yorkshire well in the firing line for this one.

Hills around Whitby are getting a pasting again. Really does seem to be the spot to be if you want to live on the East Coast, yet still have snow. Pity its transport links are almost none existent so living there has to be a pain.

GFS delays the cold some what so we should see light rain turning to snow by about mid morning. Temps at 6am around 3C to 5C so above normal but rapidly fall away to freezing or just below so could cause problems with ice around mid morning.
