Leeds council have just tweeted 'Our gritters are busy preparing for #TheBeastFromTheEast gritting Leeds primary and secondary routes this morning and with teams on standby for further action tonight. Take care as evening snow showers expected to turn to heavy and persistent snow in the early hours. '

My husband just said.. Ok so we have an amber warning out for tonight that says threat to life. He then asks me if a red warning means.. You are going to die!

Seriously what an idiot... I rest my case lol

Definitely an Easterly att he moment - thought I saw a red kite through the trees but then realised it was a plane coming into LBA

I actually saw 2 red kites earlier, chasing one another. Quite a majestic site.

Anyway, the Met Office show heavy snow for Leeds from 5am to 10am. Interesting.

Run the sequences over the next 18 hours on the GFS H500 and see where the light and darker blues are you will see were in a green area (which means less instability and cloud tops lower) you can see through the day these colours become darker shades of blue (which means more instability and higher clouds) heavier showers. Just wait and be patient

Yes John Holmes posted on the short term thread that shower activity would be curtailed somewhat today but better tomorrow when he posted yesterday;

Yes mate that's spot on from John. It's H500, T850 air temperature dew points freezing bulb level. We have a tick for all of them but the H500 are limiting to light showers right now but look at how the blues get darker n darker when you run through the models. It's coming the instability every hour is increasing

The light snow that is falling here is starting to settle where I am in the very East of Doncaster for the first time today.  The amber weather warning for tomorrow has just been updated to include more of Yorkshire too!

Guess they've taken recent model output into account. I am now more hopeful!

Is there some way you can get notifications for these without having to log on to Met website or app?

quite strange really as the warning for my area has upgraded to amber but yet i have lost a few heavy snow symbols.

But on the other hand had more showers today than was forecast, so they aren't always right.

Cant wait to see what its like tomorrow morning haha

This is where the latest ICON model has the snow. Ties in pretty well with met office update.

Amber Warning now updated, shifted North and West, includes S Yorks and the Peak District

Now goes to the border of Lancashire. Wouldn't be shocked if they move it again if the 18z's follow suit

Wouldn’t worry to much what the apps show you. These will change throughout the day. :)

I have a notification set up on the Meto app for the Yorkshire region whenever a warning is issued?
