The trend today has been to keep the snow band further south and maybe just missing our region. Better for long term cold but missing a potential epic blizzard. I will say though that this is a constantly evolving situation and the morning runs may well revert back to a more northerly track and we could be back in the firing line. That may mean an abrupt end to the cold spell though. Depends what you prefer. Short term pain for long term gain or short term gain for long term pain. Of course there is that very small jackpot chance of the blizzard stalling and pivoting over our region, dumping lots of snow and then sinking back south allowing the very cold air back in. Oh we can dream lol ?

thank you for the reply. i want it all, blizards, more blizards, drifts, stalling and the cold and snow never ending ?

Good news ECM isn't really buying the GFS return to spring stuff. Cold coming back after less cold air.

Got to agree Friday looked excellent for our region on the Countryfile forecast.

Rogue snow showers tomorrow + slight accumulations for some. The shower activity ramps up on Tuesday and Wednesday with bitterly cold temperatures before a drier slot Thursday before the low approaches...

Didn't see countryfile forecast. What about Tuesday to Thursday? And how far north did the snow get for this Friday?

Mon Tuesday weds snow showers cropping up almost anywhere. Very hit and miss affair. But then Thursday night into Friday looks interesting heavy snow for all

Does that 'polar low' influence northern Lincolnshire too Reef?

Its pretty difficult to say until it actually forms, but anywhere in our region could be hit as it stands. From NW-SR model:

It's associated with slightly warmer uppers, though its weird saying that as they're still -9C at 850hPa level. Usually in cold spells those kind of uppers are the cold bit! No sign of marginality this week. :)

I still think the track of that low on Friday might not be nailed down till midweek to be honest. But it did look good on weather for week ahead. Let’s just hope it continues to be modeled correctly for us to get a direct hit. Fingers crossed.

The track of this low late Thursday/Friday is going to be very difficult to forecast. It may miss us to the south or it could move too far north and leave us perilously close to much milder uppers. The countryfile forecast sounds like they are thinking jackpot scenario for yorkshire. If so, it will be absolutely epic.

Hi Tom, looks like we are in a great spot this week.

I currently have 13 weather stations live on Wunderground across North Yorkshire, many in the North York Moors, Yorkshire Wolds and Howardian Hills.

Going to be awesome watching all the data from various stations this week :)

Absolutely, if you could pick anywhere in the country to be for the upcoming cold spell, N Yorks would be one of your first choices!
