Just raining heavy here. Typically now that its not snow forecast, look at the lovely strong heavy front solid over us all! Would have given heavy snow this morning rather than the crappy fragmented rubbish we got at the time. Damn it!! :wallbash::nonono:

Aaargh!!!,just the wrong side of marginal, this would of been good this morning like you say, still the opportunities from the 6th onwards:)

White over now, even my side road is covered now! Surprised how readily it's settled. However it's the sort of snow that you know will be rain further down the hill in the centre of Sheffield (I think).

I went to bed early so missed out on this, but we had heavy snow by the looks of it on the Leeds Bradford airport weather station history.

Sub zero here, ice rink outside with a covering of snow. Roads are lethal.

Rain turned Snow a brief covering before a rapid rise in temperatures. That should be it for a while sadly. The amount of rain 16.2mm could have led to a real depth of snow.

The strong winds for New years eve have now gone.

Was surprised to wake up to snowfall with huge 50p flakes at 4am. Left about a cm and the roads were trecherous on way to work but winter tyres had no problems. Everything nice and white over again, for now.

Again another huge difference in temperatures, Bingley is at 5.c while LBA is just above freezing.

Remember during one of the 2013 snowfalls when Leeds was being hammered and it was raining in Huddersfield? Seems like some setups result in higher elevations being milder than lower down.

Yeah but that wouldn't have any effect on falling snow lol, that would mean it would be raining at the top of the hill then snowing at the bottom. Its because Bingley Meto station is at 280m, LBA station is 200m, a simple inversion at play while the milder air mixes in at the higher levels. it'll filter down to here while the valleys will remain cold for a few more hours.

Happy New Year!

Well it's quiet in here, it seems we could have another snow event at the end of the week into the weekend, what is everyone's thoughts?

Yes Happy New Year everyone! :D

It does look like we could see a return to colder conditions from the weekend again, with hopefully some snow around too...

Happy New Year all!

There is certainly a lot of excitement over in the model thread, mostly coming from those members in the South East.

We've had some good snow events from Easterly events in the past, but it does rely on either a fairly strong wind sending snow showers in land or fronts moving in from the East, the latter being pretty rare.

it will be interesting model watching over the next few days, with no doubt shredded nerves and loads of drama.  Hopefuly we won't see the whole thing implode before it actually arrives!
