Another shift south on the EURO4.

As it stands.

West Yorkshire: Light patchy snow, covering at best, though very real chance of no falling snow at all

South Yorkshire: 2-3cm though fragmented.

Yep, as per my post yesterday, experience suggests that in these type of situations corrections are almost invariable southwards. I'm not entirely sure why that is, unless the models for some reason often under-estimate surface cold in the UK - maybe because the proximity of a huge body of water means that until the models are able to take account of short range current surface conditions they don't deal with the effect of higher pressure and surface cold on the level of deflection of 'slider' low pressures ?

People keep on saying this, yet I'm sure there are countless examples of situations exactly like this delivering decent snowfall to this part of the world. March 2013 the most obvious and recent example, but January 2013 delivered too with a similar set up to this. We had nearly a foot then.

Yes id agree.ive seen many occasions in the 70s when areas of low pressure deviate from track . Unfortunately on this occasion the angle of the low and not real entrenched cold may not deliver for our region.that said a shift isnt impossible! !!

I’m still optimistic of something here in Leeds. You can get all sorts happening once the cold and the low pressure is in place. 2010 was a good example- many times the fronts were forecast to stall well south of us, yet on the day things turned out differently. A case of wait and see.

at least ive realised that the saying ' good things come to those who wait' in incorrect.

we could have had this cover for weeks even with temps of 5c 20+cm would only thaw slowly. hopefully it will be milder down there and melt more quickly.

Get a grip man. We were never lookin at 20cm for West Yorkshire area. And no it wouldn’t have stuck around for weeks with temps at 5c. It’s only weather after all. At least will get to Manchester derby match tomorrow now

Still clinging on to my heavy snow symbols between 10am and 11am now!

That said Sheffield is still showing heavy snow for a good six hours and that is only 10 miles or so South of here so I am still hoping for something half decent even though the trend is not our friend.

It wouldn't take much of a last minute shift North to end up with a few centimetres so it's just a case of radar watching from now on in.

Just had a nice little unexpected dumping of snow in the Skipton area. Heavy for a little while, still some light stuff coming down. Added a little bit to what was already lying.

This still isn't a done deal. The meto App has upgraded since its downgrade for Leeds. Heavy snow is back. GFS has the track well north to easily cover us. May have to wait till the morning for it to become clear

Snow, widely incessant, giving whiteout, particularly Peak District.

Peak District and north to Skipton: Incessant snow, whiteout or near whiteout; snow lying into valleys. Yorkshire Dales NP: Ranging from intermittent snow, not heavy, north of about Ingleborough area to constant, sometimes heavy snow progressively southwards. Near whiteout.

This was also posted in the NW thread and is a forecast from MWIS for tomorrow.  Perhaps all hope is not yet lost at least for South and West Yorkshire?

Edit and heavy snow back for my area between 8am and 1pm BOOM!  :yahoo:

It looks like the wind is switching more Westerly this afternoon which may actually push a few snow showers in our direction so we may even get a bit of the white stuff earlier than we thought?  The radar is looking fairly promising it is just whether they make it over the hill?!  :cc_confused:

So, a perfect example of my earlier post. There was nothing in the forecast even at 12pm this afternoon for snow in or area. 3 hours later it is snowing moderately and the radar shows much more to come.

Still very optimistic for tomorrow. We have very cold air, and atmospheric instability. It will be a case of watching the radar tomorrow morning to see what will happen.

The Met Office UKV model that supersedes the EURO4 has come out and apparently pushes the front south again by 20×miles
