I've just been out metal detecting and I can confirm - it's rather cold.

I spoke to the North York Snow Shield operator and he says it's working fine. Some sleet might get through but thats all.

Hope he's asleep on duty tomorrow night as conditions seem good even for our pathetic 20m above sea level.

first snow chase of the season coming up tonight .....will be up on the Wolds at 5 a.m. in the old Land Rover ( if it starts ) ....cant wait

Ey up Jezza, if there's any showers at 5am will be snow even in North Newbaldy!

Big plan for tomorrow is enjoy the snow at home in the morning (if it comes), then as it becomes a bit more marginal at low levels around lunchtime head up to somewhere like Thixendale in the Wolds.

Then in the evening as it becomes even more marginal head to the higher parts (250m) of Dalby Forest for a rally with the winter tyres on.

I think those of us close to sea level have a short window of snow accumulating which is in the morning, unless the showers are really beasty in afternoon then I do think it may become quite marginal with the high SST in the North Sea's (-6c 850hpa just too high).

i do agree about the marginality of the situation Vizzy . i'm just hoping that we can hang on to some -7c or -8c 850hpa for a few hours to give us a chance of a covering. We bloody deserve it in North and East Yorkshire.  Enjoy the chase ! regards JS

Looking back through the archives on when I've seen low lying snowfall settling here near Malton, -6/7c is OK, aslong as the showers are heavy, my only concern is the higher SSTs than those events which happened in Jan/Feb 2015 and Feb 2016 when the sea is cooler.

NMM 2km is very nice on the eye I must admit.

Morning local folks  :)
Snow !!  Well a light dusting so far.
Tricky conditions here though as it is falling and settling onto icy surfaces.
Take care all.

Woohoo Reef, very happy for you mate, its been a tough few years for low lying coastal areas, and its not even winter yet :)

Small covering here, on and off showers with a keen NNW wind.

Snow showers all day here at Saltfleet on the Lincs Coast.  I’m almost on the beach and we’ve got half an inch of lying snow - 1st for us since 2013.

Still more showers to come from the North Sea, the MO warning sits at Yellow overnight, with low impacts and medium likelihood

 Medium
