First few outputs showing the cold moving south slightly earlier, which should improve the snow prospects very slightly.

Look at how cold it's getting by 1800 on the E4 as the freezing level/snow level is dragged down by the intensify of the precipitation. All that earlier rain is going to freeze - treacherous.

I remember the evening snowfall of 6th January 1994 in the south east.  This followed days of heavy rain and when it turned to heavy snow, it settled very quickly on to very wet ground. It was not forecast and was caused by evaporative cooling.  I think some areas had around 4 inches in a short space of time.  Perhaps something similar could occur tomorrow?

Yes that's the event when I saw the snow flakes in water . Was listening to local radio and it said their are reports of snow falling in east Surrey . All of a sudden a big switch to snow . Layed almost immediately . Fond memories

Bit of a downgrade for friday

Depends where you are in the region!

ppn further west brings a mild sector into play in the east. Ppn further east and the west potentially miss out. Tough one and a knife edge nowcast radar watch!

These charts from the GFS look good for most of the region though

Further east so less mixing due to mild = more snow falling to lower levels in the east. Unfortunately the PPN doesn't look as heavy but hey ho.

ALSO

The GFS is beginning to show yet again another albeit weak band of showers heading SE from the NW.

Many more surprises likely.

Also for those who live in East norfolk, potential for a clipper to form

I'm a tad jealous of my husband, him being a teacher he may get a few snow days off ( but he will be safe as he has a long journey), Myself, I will look like a demented elf trudging in to work with my woolly owl hat. On the plus side he will make dinner.

Been glued to model watching today! Loving the last few ECM runs! Good luck to everyone hoping for covering of snow tomorrow eve! Let's hope it happens and not disappointed! Hope my dreams come true for an easterly next week with snow opportunities and snow days off work! Good night all and fingers crossed no downgrades for tomorrow!

Snow tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and real potential, in my view, for Sunday to become a full-on frontal snow event...

Isn't Sunday looking rather mild however,  around 5 degrees or so?

Is looking that way, but it's forecast to be temporary, with the colder air (supposedly) pushing back in.

18z GFS indicates some leading edge snow as the rain pushes SE, but not supported on other models so far and probably change next run - too far out to forecast snow anyhow.

It is also a lot colder on the ECM, and as the models converge, it could get interesting.
