Wow that 'embedded cold air' didn't last long

If that was a reference to my post a bit further up the page, the Swansea area was only ever really predicted to see a wintry mix due to its coastal location. Expect to see wintriness in the Valleys in the coming hour, with some settling snow in higher parts.

Work in Langstone just on the outskirts of Newport. The odd sleety flake mixed in the drizzle at the moment. Be nice if that colder air mixes in before front moves away to give a couple ouole of surprises. Shower activity could be good overnight though and Thursday is continuing to shape up nicely!

Probably not, sadly! The depths we saw in March would have been fairly unusual in a pre-climate change winter, let alone now.

Some scenes here in Nelson:

It does actually look like it's trying really hard to snow in Port Talbot. Nice change from just rain!

Yes, and based on reports we've had from points further west and the quick transformation now taking place on the Heads of the Valleys, I expect the change to be fairly rapid.

I just watched the meto video forecast for Thurs and it's looking good for high ground with some decent accumulations but unfortunately cold rain and sleet for lower levels ie Cardiff etc

Heavy rain in Abergavenny. Elevation is going to be key for accumulations. We may well see some snow but i doubt it will stick down here.

Still rain here unfortunately @andymusic do you think it will turn to snow down here and also how long is this low pressure system going to last until it fizzles away.

I have a feeling the height caveat of 200m and above will matter - you may see some flakes or sleetiness though as the cold is embedding further into the front as it goes reason why the met office were more concerned for south east England as it will arrive in the dark and with more cold embedded

I am getting the snow here but nothing is accumulating - it's possible the accumulating level will be around 300m and above as senghenydd mountain may have some once the cloud clears
