Managed to go out in yesterdays system to get some wind readings and got 32mph slightly up the large road and hill and then further up had a 40mph gust.

Not long after it calmed down so I probably missed the peak of the winds even though they weren't as strong as early Mondays system.

Rain was ridiculous though as I got damp even with waterproofs on!

Interesting weather over North Wales tonight and high ground in the south as a trough runs across Wales .A trough arrives after midnight with heavy equally showers ,with snow covering possible over the North.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  Whiteout in Rhayader,  was 4.5 and raining 30 mins ago, now dropped below 2c and sticking very well.

Now Sleet / wintry mix, everything turning to a slushy mess. Will be lethal if it freezes later.

Was fun while it lasted and more than expected.

Not sure if anyone else heard but earlier there was a loud long rumble here a few hours ago before there was a ridiculously heavy downpour.

Not sure if it was thunder or a possible very weak earthquake or possible explosion as it didn't,t sound like normal thunder and I was inside watching TV when it happened. If it was from lightning it must have been a pretty powerful strike to be heard with windows and curtains shut, watching tv with headphones on.

Had a continuous rain/hail mix for a while now with a bit of thunder and lightning thrown in, im off to Aberystwyth thismorning, up over Brecon and up through the mountains way today before coming back later, will be a fun day weather wise of driving!

Just had a light to moderate shower come through here with a few distant rumbles and then a flash and rumble overhead.

We seem to have done better for thunder here in the Autumn and Winter months than Spring and Summer!

Light dusting of snow on tops.  Strong snow shower about 1:25, but too wet to settle.  Just been down the village to get our tree and my feet are freezing,

Was nice to see some snow covered mountains to drive through on my trip to and from Aberystwyth today, some very heavy showers and prolonged spells of rain and sleet along the way.

Saw a few more faint flashes around this evening with showers so have been pretty lucky considering its Winter.

No comments here this week probably reflects the miserable weather - or else you're all too busy Christmas shopping! All I know is, it's been wet and windy all week with little respite. Pretty depressing.   However, today has dawned dry and calm with a pinky tinge to the few clouds about.  Might be a nice day for a change?  Not likely to get any snow in my part of the world until at least early January but if it stays dry and cold on Christmas Day I'll not complain.  There is another band of moderate rain approaching from the south later, but it might not get as far north as Wales before moving east.  Fingers crossed.

It was a very changeable day yesterday with quite a lot of sunny periods in between some beefy showers - not too bad really.  It's another very nice start to the day here - a fair number of clouds but blue skies all around and the sun has been in and out since dawn.  It's not particularly cold but in the absence of snow and ice at this time of year I'll settle for dry and sunny - thank you!   There are more showers in the forecast but nothing biblical fortunately so we might avoid any flooding in the at-risk residential areas.  However, there is plenty of water in the rivers and some overtopping of the banks in places so many fields are under water in the low lying areas. Christmas Day is forecast to be dry and maybe sunny with light winds - perfect for a good walk.  Boxing Day is another story with wind and rain returning but I hope it won't prove too disruptive for people travelling to visit family.

Two different views on the weather up to Boxing Day:

26/12:        Accumulated rainfall to midnight                 Max wind gusts at 9:00pm

ECM.      image.thumb.png.70d8017cbd60742f08760ad6fdecc05a.png   image.thumb.png.69bf4febcc96775128fa69a48e43df26.png

GFS seems to take the Boxing Day low pressure on a more southerly track bringing less rain and lower wind speeds for Wales.  That's quite a difference in such a short time frame so it will be worth watching to see which model is nearer the mark.....

Models not producing what we would like to see (those of us who want cold and snow anyway)...will take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and hopefully the big man in the red suit will deliver some better model viewing soon!❄

Another foggy and misty grey day, temps peaking at 5 day time, rising to 7 over night.  Interesting to note on meto daily’s that the temps in these ere parts have been gently dropping from double digits, no doubt the fog.  A degree or two higher on Beeb.  Anyways, it’s cool to cold out there.
