Also with a very low solar minimum ,plus Krakow eruption has been raised to a level2 which can reduce global temperature, this occurred in 1982 with a major eruption in Mexico resulting in a very cold January and snowstorms across Wales.

That eruption started on 29th March. It wasn't anything to do with that.

It actually coincided with the 1982-83 El Nino event causing a slight net warming in the northern hemisphere the next winter.

Been upgraded to level2  todayl  look at the no summer of 1816 in USA due to massive volcanic eruptions in Indonesia,And yes massive volcanic eruptions occurred in 1982 the worst in Mexico history.

Another dull heavily overcast start to the day after a run of similar days with so much moisture in the air everything stays damp all day.  We visited Tenby and Saundersfoot yesterday where the sun did come out for part of the afternoon and then treated us to a lovely sunset.  Such a beautiful stretch of the Welsh coastline in a country blessed with almost unbroken beauty along its entire coast.  Tenby always looks lovely whatever the weather.  It would be nice to see a little more wintery sunshine in the next few days but to be honest I prefer these calm but dull conditions to the violent winds we experienced earlier in December.  No sign of proper winter weather in the next couple of weeks really, but the models are far from perfect and they can change their minds overnight sometimes so it's much too soon to rule out seeing any snow in January.....

Another mild morning, after a mild night, dawn chorus going now.  Swiss chard still growing in veg beds.  Weather looks to turn colder for a while, then whatevs.  First cold symptoms of season  started, so will mope around planning essay, then go for walk, then languish with tissues on sofa.  Hopefully a quiet end to the year (if only the hordes of off-roaders and 4x4 chariots would bugger off back to their urban bog holes).  Mutter mutter.......

Oh rapture!  The Madmod  thread is showing signs of general happiness, as SSW downwelling May be hoving into view on the models.  More BOOM BOOM  inda room and ‘Stonkers’ charts, less petulant pouting and toy chucking.  I am happy that the Little monopods  https://narnia.fandom.com/wiki/Monopod are happy.  Come SSW don’t disappoint them this winter, get down that reversed zonal wind chimney pronto!!

Does the sun ever shine in Wales

Only on about 3 days a year. We like the cloud here, keeps the dragons hidden.

After all the rain and drizzle we've had of late, really need this dry weather now before any snow, then hopefully a few days of proper cold first to freeze the ground, then a blizzard or two. Is that asking for too much?

Sun shining here at the foot of the Beacons , getting colder from this evening onwards ! I welcome crisp brighter days than the awful miserable weather of late , anyway I see the real cold digging in soon enough !

Happy New Year to you all !

Bugger!  Despondency reigns once more in sodden wastes of madmod Narnia.  In spite of SSW, the dufflepods are hurling this year’s baubles out of the cot.  For a laugh, compare and contrast gloomy posts with the archived mod thread for the feb 2018 SSW

maybe we could play MadMod Bingo?

Well we'll have stratospheric warming now in full effect over the Arctic Easter!yes will develop from  50 to 90N.This suggest a powerful upper ridge with a high pressure building over the Arctic low pressure will develop over mid latitudes ,with a dynamic and snowy conditions spreading west over Europe Remember record cold Russia atm will come out way ,great to speculate but winter is about to bite BIG TIME!!!!!!

Thought it would of been a bit more busy in here with the discussions going on in the 'hunt for cold thread'  does anyone know if the cold is coming and here to stay ? Need to invest in new snow boots so a heads up would help!
