Fine blowing Snow looks way better in the dark.

Reminds me of when I was a lad living in Essex in 1981 I think it was.

Driving back from scouts (well my father was) and the snow was fine and powdery and blowing across the roads starting to drift. The forecast was for it to turn to rain after midnight and turn milder.

That never happened and by morning we had drifts in the lanes that had buried cars and pick ups. I remember driving down a road with green fields and 15' drifts either side.

Whats my point?

Havent got one really, I just remember watching the snow swirling around our outside light, watching it totally mesmerised.

Lets hope the main batch hits us head on!

Amazing amount of snow here in Magor, did a Snow Angel 15 minutes ago and it has completely disappeared. Cars had to abandon at the main road as can't get up our hill. Incredible and a wonderful thing for my son to see, he has now officially got the snow bug.... only took him 21 years, I knew I would turn him lol.   Be safe everyone.

Reminds me of snow 1991snowed like this for 6hrs 2hrs of heavy snow had a foot .

this is a GENERAL event though. it is affecting EVERYONE in a  large area. this hasn't happened on a  large scale like this since the early 80s, and i just KNEW it would catch people out, as did Andy Music

this event will be talked about for years, in the same breath as 47,63,78 and 82 in S Wales. I have been TRYING to warn people about this, only to be met with pitying stares, knowing nods and smiles, and outright LAUGHTER when I said this event has the potential, at least,  to KILL people. Laughing now Steve? hmmm?

oh well....

Bright echos hitting S Coast England nr Lyme Regis, should be heading Wales' way.

Have to say, this is looking increasingly EPIC.

What's everyone's snow totals so far? At least 5 inches here with 2ft+ drifts.

3 to 4 inches in the sheltered back garden, but less out the front with the wind moving it around.

All I've done today is look out of the window watching the snow fall. I have been a proper curtain twitcher.

Its good to see a few more people happy in here and thats before the main event. What i'm taking from it is the temp that is -4 ( i cant remember seeing snow at that temp and probably 40-50 mph wind., both very unusual.

We're 9" in drifts, 3" in sheltered areas and 0" on exposed roads and paths...

Nothing sad about it: it's a thing of beauty.

I think E coast of Ireland will get it, just it seems to be taking a direct route across SW UK rather than skirting round us, as many of the precipitation forecasts have showed during the last couple of days.
