Imagine if there really was a genuine really cold spell .

Multiple snow events all over ( and right down to the coast ) .

An event lasting a good solid 3 weeks with no rain or sleet or anything remotely mild - at all .

December 2010 .

( will be 8 years ago when we start next winter - wow , where did those years go !).

Now that would be epic .

That was epic .

This just feels like another event ,that probably won’t even get any nominations come the weather awards ceremony whenever that may be .

What has been epic has been the level of hype and sycophantic behaviour in the mad thread .

Absolute cheese fest in there at times.

I think most may get a covering for a short while but that’s about it .

Winter of 17/18 will be known for THAT SSW but not much else .

Hopefully it can go out on Thursday Friday with a bang and avoid the shameful wet fart blizzard tag .

Someone mentioned that the Russians were behind this SSW - ( must try harder next winter please Vladimir ) .

I think down here in Barry we’ll see very little with regards to severe weather. Wind chill is quite severe at times but I doubt any snow will be more than a few hour event.

What's your guess at snow totals?

I'll go for foot and half up by you mate.

and the rest lol - 2 - 3 feet possible methinks - could be digging out for a while, days/week - only thing is the mrs has 3 flippin Shirley bassey gigs end of the week - one in bridgend on Friday night - looks like going in the bin - celebrating st david's day - and two in Cardiff on Saturday - in something called St David's Rocks - 3 Tom Jones Tributes - Three Shirley Bassey Tributes and other acts and a Tribute band to the stereos too at 8 different brains pubs in the centre of Cardiff, Liza should be at THE YARD at 4pm and The Duke Of wellington at 8pm - but I'm not sure any of those are looking too good right now either - all depends how well the councils keep the roads open - what the weather does and whether we can get to where we are going - and whether the audiences can get there too - but if  they have to be called off for the sake of safety, then that's what has to happen

Shortwave coming in the early hours, into tomorrow morning then, wind will turn to the north for the morning and turn light, feeling less cold Tuesday.

Felt bitter today, even though there wasn`t that much wind about again.

Tomorrow looks interesting for snow in parts of Wales as more organised precipitation moves in off the North Sea heading SW:

euro4ppn.thumb.gif.8ae5c54647e7fddfe7332453f4c12f56.gif

Its very cold at both surface and upper levels of the atmosphere so what falls out of the sky will be snow! Temperatures really struggling to get above freezing even in the far South West....very impressive to be honest:

Thursday into Friday has the potential to be a very disruptive event over parts of Wales *IF* it happens. This will chop and change over the coming days and it may be the case that the low doesnt come as far north as it encounters the cold pool of air established over the UK, if anything it is slightly further south today...over the years ive seen such things trend so far south they end up in France. One to monitor over the next few days!

Indeed snowstorm. I don't like the fact some models are showing plus figures for 850s by Saturday.  But as ever it will chop and change in the next 48 hours
