Pleased to report there must have been a microscopic chink in the snow shield over Coed Pen Maen in Pontypridd last night. Admittedly it's as sparse as my Nan's dusting of icing sugar on a cake but it is SNOW.

Still hoping for a repeat of the late 70's/80's - but it's faith that keeps me going! :yahoo:

Just been out and surprised that the roads/pavements are really slippy so any rain, and we've been forecast for a lot, should cause problems later and tomorrow as the temps aren't as high as forecast earlier. Anyone got an update - snow/ice for Rhondda Cynon Taf?

there's always one or two who are just not prepared for the conditions - just quite amazing

its amazing those who are inexperienced end up on Crib Goch, then they freeze (not literally) because of the exposure and end up getting stuck due to being concerned about the drops either side. In ice though it's nasty.

From here in Wirral you could see there was snow on the eastern Clwydians today that stood out in the sunshine. Even this morning there was snow at the highest parts of the Flintshire hills (Halkyn, Pen y Ball), which has been quite a rare sight in recent years

there's certainly a risk of fleeting snow/ice/freezing rain around before it all turns to rain by midday tomoz

Hi, curious about this here in Gloucesteshire too... it’s -2c where I am surrounded by hills covered in snow.. just light snow for a few hours would be very interesting here. Seen the precip in South Wales seemingly heading this way. Is that bringing the milder air, or is it coming afterwards? Thanks.

I'd agree with that and as it's hovering around 3c at the moment, not the 7/8 as forecast by the BBC earlier, I can see some problems tomorrow. Very icy where the shade hasn't lifted today and no grit anywhere.

Hi - there's a tiny bit of precip attempting to get in but I think it struggles because of the cold temp and fizzles out - the front behind does have more strength to it and will march in more vigorously and bring with it slightly milder air too, but there maybe a transition which has been moving further south to go through before it turns to rain

Thank you, that’s helpful.

Still snowing heavily, couple of inches of honest snow - no weather warnings, due to we all being sheep in rural areas, but the meto for cast on going to bed last night was rain.....       shades of 2013.  Although this one should go through in the next hour or so.

Heavy snow here until half hour ago c 3-4cm. Possibly rain according to the radar at lower altitudes. Temperatures increasing now.

Looks like an easterly hence the tawelwch here! Easterlies aren’t my favourite being in West Wales dry and cold not much snow unless battleground when we always seem to be too far West!

What thread you reading? It's all positive towards a cold spell from this weekend. Still waiting for all 3 models to give the same output but 2 out of3 are..... and GFS is moving the same way slowly

Just glancing in the mod thread at the recent outputs . Yes definitely colder this weekend but they are banging on about next week and further on think some have completely written off winter !
