Looking like an average cold snap is on the cards for the next few days and not snowmageddon which a few were talking about. Give me dry cold weather to the mild mush any day of the week and this winter has been much better than previous years even if we don't get snow days

would be really good if we could have on here some realistic forecasting for the next 4 or 5 days rather than the people on the main thread looking for breakdowns, trends and past winters.

Extract from matts blog on netweather no panic no throwing toys out of pram very clear forcast       So, after the cold or very cold and frosty start to Saturday wintry showers across eastern areas may well then progress further inland across England and Wales in particular during the day, perhaps bringing several centimetres of snow to some areas, depending on the local intensity and frequency of the showers and perhaps especially above 150m to 200m or so. There could also be some snow showers too across parts of Scotland. Many western areas of the UK though will, overall, likely remain mainly dry with some further bright or sunny spells. Highlighting this process of a more pronounced region of instability and cloud development within the atmosphere is the below forecast sounding for Leeds at 1200Z on Sat. Note a lot of moisture within the lower layers of the atmosphere (blue and red lines close together), and there is some evidence of instability up to around 8,000ft or more which would promote some moderate snow showers too.

additional info then tonight - 18z - if it's to be believed - MAJOR SNOW into Wales starting next monday morning and then through into tuesday - then possibly the temps begin creeping up - outside of the reliable but that could be well our snow chances across all height levels - in the meantime - the odd flake could well penetrate this far west so hang onto your hats - winter has properly finally arrived

Winter hasn't properly finally arrived it's just another cold snap no better than 1 we've already had this winter

Winter is not allowed to be over until the Brecon Beacons are full of families sledging. It can happen in March.

how is that bad news? updated FAX? looks good with E'ly, we don't want that low, as it's associated with milder dew points, cleaner flow should mean snow

Always going to be the same. Wales needs a stronger flow to get anything coming inland with effect.

There will be no lowland snow from that at any stage - maybe on the highest hills, but overall it will be rain from the get go (I'm basing this off current model output - if more frigid air is drawn into the circulation that of course helps matters a lot).

Saw some dandruff floating around in the wind earlier and thought to myself this cold spell is going down as 1 of the best along with 2010..... (sarcasm) This isn't the beast from the east this is the least from the east lol

When I came out of my Welsh class last night there was a dusting on top of my car, little polystyrene like balls I would describe them as. Something similar while walking the dog this morning, few bright spells as well. Nothing of note really.
