Very positive tweet from Joe B a europe whiteout on its way in the New Year:cold:Europe-2017_Jan_5_10.png This is indicating that the models think there’s going to be a lot of snow on the ground in the UK and all through western Europe.” -

You know that something is afoot out there in FI when the usual posters in the Model thread start spitting their dummies out and disparaging each other!

Nonetheless a new year packed with cold potential on the way.

Absolutely stunning day today.  Sparkling sunshine all day, max 7C, min 3C, slight iciness on the roads where the sun hasn't reached this morning.  If it stayed like this until March I wouldn't complain.

Another possible northerly outbreak around the 7th with snow showers feeding down from the north

not jumping on that bandwagon just yet a little too FI - lets see how the initial northerly pans out 1st and high pressure - but joe b seems convinced

Very dull this morning - cold with low cloud and almost no movement in the air.  Quite a contrast from yesterday but at least it's dry and no fog!  Looks like we'll keep these conditions until Sunday when the cold front moves through and introduces a brief northerly.  Sadly any chance of snow now pushed well into the second week of January but with any luck this might change within the next few days.

Bonkers charts from the GFS. Nearly all the UK in minus double figures daytime surface air temps!!

Surely it won't happen Andy????? !!!!!!!

bit off the scales and again way out in FI land - plus the 6z isn't always the one to go with - bit like the pub run 18z - can be a bit eratic - but ya never know - could be onto something and joe b seems a little spooked too

12z still looking potentially good as from around 6th -7th Jan - but not as good as the 6z - so the gfs is "playing" around with some cold/snow ideas - but at this far out - who knows how bad/good it might get

Just to add a full on BEASTERLY in FI - wowsers

could be game on if these sorts of output keep coming

very bold statement about till march - considering we only really know approx 10 days to two weeks ahead and that's flawed - offer caution about that but the 6th jan onwards is now looking more certain

I'd laugh now if regardless how cold it got I still managed to get rain!  Hopefully this will be a nice change for us to seem some decent winter weather again as I was living away in Uni when we had the last decent snowfalls down here so I haven't seen a good snowfall since 2010!

I'm a little excited and biting my tongue not to mention it to anyone as you all know what happens if you do!   This is better than Xmas day itself! Would love a snow day! Cmon it's our turn for sure!    Anybody else a little excited?

Could well see back edge snow over Breacons Beacons new years day and wintry showers for a few days then confident for  snow for the rest of Wales by the 7th ); 18_180_preciptype.png?cb=339

Long way to go Andy i know but the consistancy is there precipitation is hard to forecast but one thing looks odds on it will be cold with persistant hard night frosts for most of the week ahead.
