caught my eye in the mod thread  from Ian F

The issues Sun into Mon are especially tricky. UKV generated a plastering of snow even at lower elevations across W'rn parts of the W Country (incl adjacent Bristol Channel/M5 corridor up into Wales and SW Midlands) but considered overdone. However 00z EC gives quite a few cm in pretty much same areas, but that model automatically settles all solid phase ppn. Jury out....

Just got to work on time in the early hours of this morning, after sliding down the pavement and scraping thick ice off the car.

Still cant see any snow falling for tomorrow, except for maybe the prime spots above 300m such as the Brecons, nothing substantial to shout about...however, in saying that - it is only Autumn, and any flakes this year will be a bonus after last years dreary drudgery.

Monday morning has potential over Wales too from today's updates - and at the end of the run back comes a trend for December 2010 repeat - so winter appears to be reving it's starting engines

Ian fergie quote from the model thread - "

Given that we have TMin ENS spread by morning of Dec 2nd ranging from +10C to -11C in the op (!!) & +10 to -6C in the new cycle, I think we can reasonably emphasise the uncertainty....!  Indeed even early next week, there's a raft of issues to resolve including threat (yet tbc) of significant snow in the W Country and Wales >ca 200m.

NB A more coherent drop in T850 now signalled in the new cycle by end of next week... much less pronounced in the operational

Happy New Year Welsh winter chasers!

Arpege French model has heavy snow for large areas of Wales (no it apparently won't snow in Cardiff Jay!) for rush hour Monday morning. Not too much support elsewhere as Ian F mentioned in the MOD thread. Nevertheless a better start than most of the previous few winters. It's still officially Autumn after all.

Pretty certain it's sleeting here, despite the radar showing rain.

It's damn cold, whatever is falling from the sky!

gonna be a cold wet one come sunday night and throughout monday - maybe some snow for the lucky few with decent elevation - and still on the 00z the gfs churns out December 2010 charts for the beginning of this December 2016 - is it a trend or false dawn - we shall see very soon
