Anyone else get the feeling that Dec will be a close but no cigar month. Perhaps a reasonable amount of chilly weather but no real cold ever getting established.

I think the problem is everyone is looking for the holy grail scenario, 2010 keeps getting mentioned and compared to and although I for one would love it again, its a 1 in 100 year event.

The cold this year we have experienced so far has, for me, made it feel like winter, along with the falls of snow in certain areas.

The model forum is getting to much for me now.

Unfortunately I think iv just realised getting proper snow is just basically impossible year in year out if at all. I will always follow the models but I just go with the flow and take what we are given. No point getting annoyed about it anymore as it rarely happens now.

Very interesting 6z which would bring very interesting conditions around the 9th with back edge snow and a northerly forming in it's wake. The ens for Omagh show the huge drop in 850s (with the mean dropping from +5 to -5 in 24 hours and the op showing and even wilder swing) when the low drops SE. I know it's one run but this is beginning to pick up momentum and we seem to be in an ideal place if this low transpires and turns wintry,

GFS looking good for Thursday as the guys mention above, if it’s there come Tuesday and metO come on board then my excitement level will rise quite considerably.

Looks like some potential for next week although I'm not getting excited until the snow is falling lol. Knowing my luck I'll be working anyway and miss all the fun.

The 6z continues the theme of cold and snow for later in the working week. The ens for Omagh highlight the incredible drop in 850 temps, there's almost a 15°C drop in just over 24hrs!

Also showing a 95% chance of snow, hoping ECM is better this evening.

Good solid runs now regarding a northerly to end the week. I expect the EMC to be fully on board this evening(wishful thinking). In fact the latest runs bring the colder 850's in a little earlier. Very interesting week ahead!! I was in Iceland February this year and 50cms of snow fell the day we arrived. Would love to see something like that here. Would be epic!

Yes Pom thats a cracking chart! That would result in helcopters having to drop in supplies to people living in the Sperrins ?? A wee bit like the spring blizzard of 2013!

Friday looking like a day to take off work, MT in good tune as alluded to above.

Charts looking good for weekend coming, with a bit of luck we’ll see some of the white stuff :cold:

Edit:- just had a look at metO forecast for tomorrow and noticed double snow symbols for Friday. I appreciate automated.....but gave a wee buzz all the same :yahoo:

My Christmas work do in the Birches hotel in Omagh on Friday. Looks like we'll be snowed in. Ah well, will just have to continue drinking!
