Hailstones

I always thought that hailstones preceding snow helps said snow lay? Would this be a correct assumption?

Back home in Dungiven. Layer of snow here. Hasn't done a thing for the last half hour but it's not melting away either.

What you reckon MS. Will things pick up again?

Aye. Just a brief lull. Forecast seems to show heavier showers around 2am and then at rush hour.

As Briefman says, a nice wee base.

Met office have informed us that there will be more showers overnight but not as bad as that last fall  so nothing major to be fair.

I didn't hear that. What's your source? Their proper warning doesn't kick in until midnight. The one for this evening only mentioned slushy deposits

Yeah was out with the dog a walk there and things freezing up nicely so anything that falls from here on in should lye.

Few hail showers in the past hour but nothing more than that. Radar looks good just to my north with 2 separate bits of precip incoming. Then after that keeping an eye on that precip of the West coast of Scotland. Hopefully that intensifies as it moves south.

Heavy snow continuing here, must be 4-5cm lying now.

Are those showers destined for here Ronan? I thought they were coming from the NW rather than NNW? What radar is that you're using?

Ah right. It's a pity the radar doesn't show activity further into the Atlantic so we could get a better idea of what's coming next!

Into the Atlantic wouldn't really matter when its coming from the north but the met office radar shows everything off the west coast of Scotland which i think is heading our way. Pic from just now..20171208_010417.thumb.jpg.d8cf39525dd11506621923fe20e7712e.jpg

Btw, picked these up off the model thread. Looks good for Sunday on pub run.

Fax chart showing us in Ulster north of the front so staying on the cold side and the precipitation charts looking really good!
