All parameters look like delivering snow to me.

And with a flow like this, ignore the low res precipitation charts... these WILL deliver precipitation

Rtavn481.gif  <---- 6am just about anywhere across the NW/Pennines

Rtavn541.gifRtavn601.gif   <--- 12pm- 6pm a focus on G Manchester/Peak District/North Cheshire

Rtavn661.gif   <---- Midnight Thursday night , focus on West Cheshire, Merseyside, down into the West Midlands, a classic Cheshire gap setup.

No downgrades today, in fact things look more favourable.

Dewpoints, 850's, thicknesses, wet bulb zero level, all look good.., surface air temps could make things marginal right on the coast.

Nothing is ever certain in weather but I think we're in with a very good chance. If you want my opinion then a quite a few of us will get a covering of snow by Thursday evening.

MetO automated forecasts could improve within the next 12 hours once we get within the range of the high res precipitation models. :)

Watch out Lake District!

Mountain forecast for Saturday:

"Remaining bitterly cold with gale or severe gale northerly winds over the summits coupled with snow showers. Sub zero temperatures at all levels even during the daytime. Potential for severe white-out conditions over the high ground."

Off over Kirkstone (following the snowplough again hopefully) - failing that its a low level Langdale plod assuming the valley is'nt cut off.

....all wishful thinking of course and asking too much.

Good post by JB at top of page.  Ideally on Thursday these bands of *touch wood* snow will deliver for most of us as they move from north to south throughout the region.  I feel after that wether it be from the south west, east or north east we won't be best served but hopefully the temps will remain depressed.

Looking at all the parameters I think my locale could miss out on all the action over the next few days. It appears South of a line from Manchester will be in the firing line and the further North in the region away from coastal strips could remain predominantly dry. As ever it's a case of wait and see.

I'm quite excited Joe and I moved house and live on a hill in Staffordshire in the Cheshire Gap. This is my first Polar Northwesterly since I moved in. Here's hoping for a bit of drifting so I can skip work

Met office now using the term occasional snow showers in the warning. That in my opinion is not enough to warrant a warning at all
