Morning all

A few flakes blowing around in the breeze..who says we cannot get snow from an Easterly:rofl:

Ironically tomorrow will feel like the coldest day of this so called cold snap with a stronger wind.showers will also be more frequent and heavier, more of a wintry mix than snow though.

Edit

Sun is now out:)

Skies look a bit more convective today.

As for talk about the easterlies and these marginalities didn't happen years ago, I remember the early December 1995 easterly and we actually had rain and sleet that Wednesday before turning back to snow in the evening. I thought what is going on , why is it raining etc at the time?

Rob McElwee even mentions it in his broadcast.

Indeed it does but if you look on the warning map. It barely covers the region.

Hoping I'll get to walk my dogs in some snow tomorrow morning before I have to go to work.

Chances of snow are slim to none for the majority of the region. Pennines are a glorious block from the east, but precip never has any problem crossing west to east.

Seem to remember a decent easterly in Jan 1996? delivered quite a lot of snow here, so more eastern parts of the region must have done well, must have been in the form of prolonged showers? Weather history have you any information on this?

Yes, I remember this well. Best snowfall I have seen on an easterly. Really heavy snow showers spilled across the Pennines and it was more like prolonged snow. I have seen at least a little bit of snow on most easterlies that I can remember. Even today, I have seen snow falling.

Great stuff, you don't see forecasts like that very often, 96 was a good year for snow for the North West, there was this, the feb event and another snow event in the November if I remember correctly!

The radar is looking a bit more lively with some convective activity in the Leeds - Bradford area in particular. In the next 3-4 hours we all have a chance to catch a snow shower or two although without any accumulations.

I had a ice pellet shower about half an hour ago.

Yes - darkening up - plenty of activity over the Pennines on radar - worth watching.

Forecasters keep saying how cold it is but I remembered this morning, when I was little my mum would have the washing out on the line and it would be frozen stiff!
