Raining here. Turned to wet snow twice but only like 30 seconds each time, and back to rain.

As the mist begins to clear the snow-covered hills of the lower-Goyt Valley are beginning to come into view, a shower with a nice mix of sleet, snow, thunder, for the day.

If it's any consolation, it didn't snow here.

Heavy sleet and wet snow first thing this morning but since then little other than disappointment.

i suppose that today just about sums up the winter so far, plenty of potential but always the wrong side of marginal.

Mmm another forecast that went wrong today - hardly any precipitation to speak of, fells looking green, despite the forecasts saying heavy persistant wintry precipitation through the day, just like Thursday, main bulk of precipitation happened further north than expected. Once again we are under a strange lull in the circulation pattern with no shower activity - quite annoying because conditions are ripe right now for snow down to low levels. Lets see what tonight brings, could be a surprise dusting, which would enable me to record at least one morning with snow cover.

Rest of the week looks typical fayre for early March, chance of wintry showers, longer spells of rain, windy at times, temps around average but feeling preety cold, frost risk at times, indeed tonight is looking like delivering a widespread air frost.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
