Well Cumbria was in the eye of the storm so to speak today, in an odd lull surrounded by weather activity. In the end it was a rather typical winters day, with some rain about, snow above about 400 metres, and fresh wind at times -but thankfully no local damage. All thanks to the low taking a direct path across the country and the frontal systems quickly moving through and breaking up as they did so. We even managed some blue sky and sunshine this morning - today is evidence that there are few places on this planet that can have such varied weather in such short distances.

Looking ahead, early next week looks possibly quite wintry.

Well it looks like tomorrow's forecast washout is still on so any thoughts of cutting back trees in the garden will have to wait.

its just a shame that today's conditions can't be repeated as it would have been perfect for a bit of outdoor work.

Oh dear, memories of last winter are springing to mind today, grey leaden skies shrouding everything in a cloak of dampness, incessant rain to boot, the next 24-36 hours looks like being very wet here, with hardly any respite from the rain.. suspect there will be some localised flooding, with some hefty totals on the fells. Thankfully we've spared such conditions over most of the winter. Indeed we look to be in the most persistant unsettled spell since last spring and looking cold next week with quite a bit of snow for the tops.

Thoroughly wet miserable morning has just turned into a thoroughly wet miserable afternoon with hardly any sign of a join between them.

never mind at least it's mild:wallbash:

My local endorheic tarn is filling nicely up 5 metres since I've come back from Tenerife

Mmmmm I've got a bit of a leak somewhere on my conservatory and that's filling up nicely.

thankfully if I open the door it should stop it getting to 5 metres.

Hopfully not filling to that depth :shok:

No I measured it earlier and at its deepest point it was about 2mm so hardly a crisis but as with most leaks the problem is finding where it's coming from.

anyway it's nice having you back on here mate.

Welsh rain shadow in full operation today. Been dry here since early morning apart from a bit of drizzle.  Not a bad day all things considered.

We only get a rain shadow here when it's cold enough for snow.

here too, surprised at your location 300m asl, you are  probably too far west for snow though
