Yes, kinda opposite to a plume! this setup in summer would be a plume with tropical continental air, and thunderstorms from south tomorrow

Strange day, no frost on my car this morning despite being comfortably below freezing, a very February-esque "dry cold" feel, with laden grey skies and a raw wind. Out of the wind, it felt strangely comfortable given the actual temperature, but it was bitter in it. Reminded me more of Feb 2013 than December 2010, here at least.

Carol Kirkwood just mention snow over the Pennines tonight.

Probably would be transient at best but the way this and recent winters have gone, I wouldn't hold my breath about even seeing a flake.

in the short term though, plenty of frost to scrape off the windscreen before I go to work.

Minimum air-temp of -4.1'c in Buxton overnight, and even approaching midday open-surfaces are still frosted over. Second ice-day this winter so far.

Horrible wet start to the day and if the forecast proves to be accurate, not much will change throughout the coming hours.

not particularly mild but as usual just high enough to rule out anything interesting falling from the sky.

role on light nights, warmth, walks and beer gardens.

I don't mind rain myself.....living here I've grown up with the stuff but the problem is that never knows when it's outstayed it's welcome.

Yes - as a frequent visitor to the ELR I understand.

Also relatives nr Kendal have been washed out once or twice in recent years.

Yeah no doubt the trains will be running again today and the mist will be down shrouding the tops.....welcome to the Rossendale Valley.

Many years ago Mike Harding did a song called King Cotton which apparently he wrote about the RV....on YouTube I believe.

if he did then it summed the place up perfectly and, although the mills have all gone now, it still looks very familiar to what he sang.

Turning to sleet in Bacup town centre now

Missed the sleet but it looks like it's back to rain again now.

a wet few hours and the rivers and streams have responded, plenty coming down the one just past the bottom of our garden.

Some sferics before out in the Irish Sea. Winds are backed a little off-shore at the surface but are WSW at height. Interesting set up. 2.7°C.

 Warning of ice just issued.
