Setups like this make our winters now look utterly pathetic!

:cold::cold::cold:

The models are trying to hint at height rises towards the NW at the minute but we all know how  that will probably turn out, it's almost as if the 09/10 and 10/11 winters were just a dream.

impressive whiteout conditions here first thing this morning but disappointing how quickly it all disapeared again during the day.

mind you the usual default couple of inches of snow caused the usual default travel chaos and default school closures.

oh and the usual default lack of gritters only added to the chaos.

never mind 12 hours later and it's as if nothing happened.

We had our lovely jolly local farmer neighbour put his plough on his tractor as he does and clear our road and the road at the bottom as the council dont do the bottom road or the hill down either...  having said that a couple of people spinning out this evening where snow has melted and now slush is icefest..... -2c feelslkie -7c....

I usually take a trip to peel tower holcome in these set ups to get my snow fix. How's it looking up there? Still any snow left? I know they closed Backup and  Rawtenstall grammar school today

Wow, DP is -4C! Any precipitation surely would be snow and nothing else. Powdery snow!

nothing left in the valley now but the snow line is about 300m and there is probably a decent covering on the hills which will hopefully be topped up again overnight.

a few local schools were closed today but it's usually more to do with the steepness of the access roads than the amount of snow which has fallen

BRGS stands at the top of a hill that is probably about 1 in 4

Met Office forecast for here going for light snow around midnight followed by light rain, oh the joy. Suppose it could be worse at least I had a covering of snow today when things were looking touch n' go yesterday morning.

Showers are beginning to have a more westerly component to them now, hoping Snaefell on the IOM can kick-start some more convective action.

Doesn't actually feel that cold out there to me this evening. This despite a temperature of 1.1 and a -2 DP

Got up to 5.1C here today with a DP of 1.9. Don't understand how anyone on low ground kept a negative DP today.

more like a wishbone northerly now as well, we'll get the showers tomorrow evening, off a WNW wind, by then much too mild for snow

Still waiting for our first snow cover of the season, we came close late in November, the snowline was 150 metres- very annoyingly. This morning, we only had very light shortlived precipitation which delivered a sugar coating again at around 150 metres, so just a little above me, had the precipitation been a touch heavier and longer lasting then a cm or 2 might have been recorded. Alas a very dissapointing 36 hours it has to be said.

Not expecting any snow tonight, shower activity most likely to miss most of Cumbria. Tomorrow should bring lots of sunshine, before cloud encroaches later. Sunday looking a carbon copy of last Sunday, dull and drab but wetter.

Not particularly enthused with prospects for next few days, more of what we have had all winter so far. Still we are only at the half way stage, and plenty of time for some decent frontal snowfall from the west, hopefully of the stalling kind, these do deliver here, big time!

Current temp 0.4 degrees, yet no frost visible - indicative of the very dry air I  suspect.

Game over then.

This sodding country is a joke for wintry weather, only Republic of Ireland, Spain and Portugal have it worse or on a par with us.
