Looking at euro 4/gfs looks to be -6/-7 uppers and atm says dew -1/-3c.... we shall see winds meant to be backing wnw between 8pm to 4am.... hence nw showers forming and pushing inland....

Out of the wind and in the sunshine it felt positively Springlike today.

In fact I went on a woodland walk. It's lovely in the sunshine today actually.. one of those days that you can appreciate.. clear air, sunshine, and chill in the wind but not to overbearing etc.

Does anyone have any historic Irish sea temperatures, interesting to see what they where say 20 years ago? Can't find anything, only have recent ones.

I was thinking the same. even during the 2009/2010 winters there were many times (and I'm sure CreweCold can back me up) that we would still get Ice Pellets or sleet even with such favourable uppers. Last proper snow from a North Westerly (zonal) type scenario was Christmas/Boxing Day 2004.

There's no snow even on cold fell which is around 300M asl, and it only looks like a dusting on the central fells

Yes, all this marginal crap seems to be far more common these days.

first shower of the day here.. it's basically rain/sleet and hail mix. There's a downburst of hail and snow towards Wales though. Looks freaky.

Measured deep Irish sea 10-20 years ago during high summer usually 14C (57F) off the coast of Anglesey. Last such measurement in Anglesey (Rhosneigr) in Aug. '15 was 16C.  I measure water temps at 400mm depth with a calibrated spirit therm as stipulated by FINA.

Sea temps in Liverpool Bay (New Brighton) have reached 20C on a couple of occasions with the incoming tide crossing hot sands but usually 17-18C in summer.  In winter sea temps at NB average 7C in February.  I did my winter swim for Countryfile on St. Valentine's Day '08.

I wouldn't go that far 'cos we're talking climate change and you really need at least 50 years' data to be sure. But yes, there does seem to be a slight warming.  I'll have to persuade my swimming mate to take us up to New Brighton so I can do some more readings.  Don't forget last year's "Cold Blob" in the North Atlantic could've had some influence.

Is it me or is it the clouds are building over here?

It was sunny before.

Let's hope the "Cold Blob" has an effect and brings the temps back down.

Just scrolling through the archives.

Setups like this make our winters now look utterly pathetic!
