Met office now going for 'the possibility of a more widespread band of rain, sleet and snow moving southwards after midnight.

Its one too keep an eye on for sure, I dont think its that band that is across the highlands at the moment as that is a trough(which may also need to be kept an eye on although i suspect that will weaken) its the mass of cloud around Shetland which is projected to head southwards throughout the night.

Got to say, the showers are very hit and miss at the moment, when you compare to those in Ireland, they look pretty rubbish in comparison!

Its not about your high tech, multi functioning home forecasting models now. It's who's got the brightest, and nearest street light.

Twitchers ready for a long night/numerous reprimands from the other half..."it's not going to snow!!" :D

It would be good to think all those beefy showers between Ireland and western scotland would keep up their intensity and make a bee-line for the north west.  We could be in for something decent then.

Just 30 minutes ago a shower passed through. It was actually rain but the back edge contained some half melted hail. It doesn't feel that cold I think because dewpoints are not quite low enough yet

Hail is good; shows there's deep convection going on.

Have to say it's really looking good atm.

I don't! I'm getting bare scraps of showers hitting around me at the moment and yes, they are falling as hail.

Getting really hacked off with this now might have to log out n shut the curtains..:D

But you know you won't :p

What bugs me is that council here are so stingy you can't even tell the street lights are on they are so dim!

They always find a way of making us pay more for less.
