The Scots already having their usual 'dumping' of snow, while everyone else feeds of the scraps. They never seem to have any issues with marginals up there lol... The Highlands must be experiencing blizzards/whiteout conditions.

The snow gates have been closing over the last few hours, Glenmore, Cockbridge and Tomintoul to name a few. Braemar snow gates were open the last time I looked but they'll probably close at some point.

I can't comment on the weather for the area I live in as I'm currently in Bulgaria but it doesn't look like it'll come to much back home.

Am I missing something here.any wintry PPN will be reserved for higher ground tonight and tomorrow morning, the action starts from lunch time tomorrow for lower ground.

The wind is quite icy tonight. Its just tried to rain here. It sounded more like hail though

well if a bit of sleet and hail floats your boat then ok .

Just been realistic here if you are expecting snow down to low levels tonight you may end up disappointed

Plenty of showers across the more northern parts of Lancashire into the Yorkshire Dales, a bit more scattered further south although a couple of sleety ones came through here a while ago.

no signs of snow up here yet though.

Low pressure systems do dictate upper air pressure though. The reason we are seeing higher upper temps is because 2 small low pressure systems and their associated warm sectors will be affecting the UK on Thursday and Friday respectively. If the low pressure systems were not there, as the predictions 3 or 4 days ago were showing, we would have cooler uppers.

But a warm sector is the airmass bounded by a warm front and a cold front. If you are not within that sector, you are in the colder airmass hence why if you are on the northern flank of a low, you have a chance of seeing snow.

These showers seem to be popping up from nowhere, tiny cells at the moment but good signs hopefully going forward.

700 and 500 mbar temps start to rapidly decrease from this point on so lapse-rates will get steeper and convection should become much more vigourous.

Just had a shower. Temp dropped 2° during it, evaporative cooling is definitely having  an effect.
