Am I missing something because XC-weather  looks rubbish for me and even for Manchester. Maybe it's just updated or i'm looking at the wrong thing?

Right here we go.

It's looking brilliant, and instead of being in December as all the NWelys  that I can remember have been, it's in January so the sea will be that bit colder. I don't think we can tell what degree of marginality if any will exist on the coast until the event, but we have evaporative cooling playing in our favour, especially with the DPs being well below freezing.

Yes Chris looks good for everyone for once. Decided to come in here as lots of bickering going on in mod thread. It looks a proper cold north wester this time. -8 uppers should do the trick for us on the coast. As you say perfect timing as we are in Jan. I'd be happy with just a covering and seeing everything white again as forgotten what that looks like! :cold:

Its quite eerie listening to the boat fog horns sounding on the Mersey :unsure2:

They are warning of the forthcoming icebergs!

Eh?

Just had a look at Crosby on XC weather and gives you approx 17cm

All runs are updated after the GFS runs

Those snow accumulation apps are crap. It will be a radar and lamp post job. If you get under a streamer you'll do ok. Still think you will need to be a good distance from the sea.

Don't worry about the exact detail and graphics. I was quite pleased with it.

You're virtually on the sea front! Need some luck for snow there. Hope you get it.

6PM Thursday until 6AM Friday looks like optimal window for here...for others in the NW it will start earlier as winds will be WNW'ly- ideal for Lancs and Gtr Manchester.

Luckily for you guys, peak instability will occur in these earlier timeframes i.e before 6pm on the Thurs so thundersnow may be a possibility.

Normally i'd be with you, but this setup is a proper Arctic blast. Any showers should be all snow thur/ fri. Longer to stick on the coast but I genuinely think this Arctic blast is a rare real deal for all as it stands today.

Id be surprised if we get anything other than hail and graupel on the coast, which will melt away as temperatures will be above 0C

He could be right but I would lower it by 100m! I reckon even low lying areas could get a surprise. Uppers are very low and with enough instability from the Irish sea there could be very beefy snow showers which will cause evaporative cooling at all levels, not far from the coast should get a covering so that always bodes well for areas further inland. Even Manchester city centre at 40m should get something decent. Might be a good event this for most of us in this thread & not just those of us inland.

Good to see the bbc 5 day forecast for here shows a snowflake symbol for Thursday and Friday, will be good to see 2 snowflake symbols and a black cloud - but can't be too greedy.. The synoptics should deliver snow to quite low levels by Thursday, as others have said it will be a case of nowcasting, watching where precipitation develops, how heavy it gets, whether any troughs become embedded in the flow, where they positions themselves etc. Could be a good night in here come Thursday.

"Especially" is the key word here. Not exclusively above 150m.

Hope to God this comes off. Lord knows we deserve it after such a putrid run of days while Europe freezes.

I have to say not as confident this morning of a true arctic blast. It starting to look as per usual inland areas and elevation will be fine, however us near the coast may now struggle. Why can't we just have a proper arctic blast like in the 80's when everybody had snow no effin problem!!! :wallbash:

Yes gfs looks very marginal this morning! Thinking ecm and ukmo are better.
