Festive greetings to all NW members.  Some Christmas cheer being shown from the models going into the new year with cold potentials cropping up.  Have they been on the mulled wine with the hangover letdowns to come or could they be onto something?  We shall see.

Merry Christmas

glad to see a bit of sun this morning and it's certainly an improvement on yesterday evening when a 20 minute walk home ended with us all thoroughly soaked to the skin.

Went to bed in the early hours after a few xmas tipples, must have been around 4 or 5 am that I was woken up by some brief strong winds with what sounded like small hail pellets hitting the window. Must have been a fleeting shower passing overhead as it was quiet after that for the rest of the early morning.

Not a bad day but I'm certainly glad I was wrapped up at the football this afternoon

not complaining though, it is winter after all and if the models stick to their guns we shouldn't be hearing much of "at least it will be mild" in the coming couple of weeks.

Also, keep an eye for the possible low running in from NW as per UKMO-GM. That's 2 days now where it has appeared (albeit still considered a low prob) in UKMOproducts and some EC members.

Happy with this from the Mod thread from Ian F !!

New year, new weather hopefully.

in the meantime, mainly dry but a colder, more seasonal few days coming up.

Manchester METAR looks promising for a inversion occurring overnight with the top of the layer forecast between 600ft to 1400ft. A early morning trip around the Peaks at sunrise will no doubt look photogenic for any early-birds up at that time.

Hard frost of most surfaces outside.  Just like the start to a day in late December should be.  Chalk and cheese between this winter and last.  Now we just need some of the fluffy white stuff to make an appearance.

Agreed, I just hope that this is the start of a few weeks of proper winter conditions and not just a blip before "at least it will be mild" returns.

The fog has now descended and we are in in the white zone, looking forward to some real winter weather soon.

Oh yeah, been sat watching the TV and never noticed that.

I'm not keen on fog but at least it should hold the temperature down

Yes agree, I think we "COULD" be on the verge/start of a decent cold spell by next week. I'll go for snowfall at some point in this region early Jan. If we can eventually get that high toward Greenland then game on. Interesting few days model watching coming up.

Boxing Day 2014 surely?

A nice event but the wind turned on-shore later and it  all melted.

Yes you are correct my error.only difference this time is wind direction is Northerly

Just a question of can the cold air catch the PPNto be honest won't be to bothered if

It does not happen January shaping up very nicely.

No fog here despite the risk shown in the weather forecasts.  Second day running the skies are blue, bright and cold.  Chance of something wintry into New Years day still on a knife-edge....it will be a case of timing and if the cold air will be quick enough to catch up the rain band coming down from the north.  Hope the ingredients are mixed right.

Yep the model thread is in meltdown! I'm not believing it will go that cold!!

Wait until it reaches 100 hrs then I shall start believing.
