Been for a drive to Flash. A good 5cm or so on the ground, mixture of pellets and snow falling. Roads were passable too.

The cloud was just to our East. (just a thin wisp), but it was clear above.

I am in Solihull Shirley area. So it depends ( I think) if you are north of me (or not)?

It was about 9:20 when I awoke (are you a cricket fan also?), and I was so shocked that I thought that a pigeon must have been attacked by a sparrow hawk initially!

I saw it in my garden about a month ago and feathers were flying everywhere!

Anyway lets hope it was but the forerunner.

MIA

Hi Midlands Ice Age,

I’m more towards the Eastern side of Solihull (Catherine-De-Barns way)

Nah, don’t really watch or play cricket, although I’ve considered taking it up before. As sports go, baseball and badminton appeal to me more.

Got up at 8 when there was some cloud overhead, but still with most of the clouds to East/North-East

Ooo gosh (lol), I hope so too. Hate to think that two birds may have gotten into a serious fight!

Talking of fights, let’s hope the snow puts up a big fight this Winter (at least for those that are craving some, including myself) :)

Telford had forecast sleet, light snow and rain, and it's been clear blue skies and bright sunshine almost the entire day!

(I've only lived here 3 years so still learning the weather...)

Haven't had a chance to post until now, but it was pretty icy first thing this morning (started work at 06:30). Then about 7 or half 7 I think, we had a brief shower of snow, which started to settle where it could (such as rooftops etc) It soon melted though and there's been a few spots of rain throughout the day, between brighter spells. It feels quite raw out though. Hopefully that little bit of snow this morning was just a little appetiser for the main course. Still it was nice to see some snow falling already in this greater Winter.

A max of 3.4c here today with some thaw of snow but still 35% cover. Looks like we could have snow showers again tonight over high ground looking at the radar.

Current temp 1.3c

Wind chill -0.7c

Dp 0.3c

Does anyone have the current ranging DP temperatures, for the Central Midlands, as these showers are struggling to turn to snow.

Went up into the Peak District today for a walk around and general searching for snow. It wasn't hard to find, nothing overly deep but some wintry scenes.

Snowy scenes and a heavy snow shower not far from Sterndale Moor

I then headed through Buxton and down the A53 to Flash. I wanted to head west along the A54 to intercept some heavy snow showers but the road was blocked by an accident. I made do with these pretty scenes instead :)

The snow cover lasted all day and had re- frozen by early evening after a slow thaw during the day. A brief maximum of 2.7c around 1300 but for most of the day the temperature was between 0.5c and 1.5c.

No sign of any white stuff on the Malverns, bitterly cold, though, dropped to 0'C last night, there was a ground frost in the morning, which means it must be even colder off the Hills. We did have a beautiful mainly sunny day yesterday, though, very clear. Glad some of you saw snow, at least! :cold: Hoping for a white Christmas, as ever!

Potentially some ice days in the week ahead?

Nice to no longer be living where a miracle is needed for proper winter weather to occur :D

Temp currently 3.7c

Wednesday and Thursday look to be the coldest days maybe Friday as the high comes in.

Best chance of sub 0 days either under an inversion under HP or an easterly.

Chilly today 5.4c max.

This time last year also saw near ice days, not unusual for late Nov/early Dec, before the westerlies arrive around mid dec and dominate for at least a month

Could be one to watch mid week/Thursday. A area of low pressure tracking from N/NW to S/SE across the UK, trying to introduce milder air.

The GFS initially had this tracking across all of the UK, with perhaps the South East hanging onto the colder air. However, it now has it staying further west, which would give a spell of snow for parts of the Midlands as the cold hangs on to the east.

Either way, once it clears all parts of the UK will see the cold air quickly return.

(Hope I have the images in the right order).

I wouldn't know. Only been living up here since June last year.

I doubt the GFS will have a handle on that system just yet. Although, I also think we would need colder uppers in place. May just be that the Pennines get a pasting. Or it could track further west still and leave us high and dry.

I had thought we may see further wintry showers this coming week but now it looks like a dry straight northerly for us.
