Why was John Hammond presenting the lunchtime regional BBC weather today? In the Birmingham studio, not video. Very unusual.

What is more odd is that he left the BBC a few weeks ago. Maybe this was his last swansong as they were desperate.

Ah, perhaps he was freelancing then?

Looking forward to the forthcoming cold snap.

Let's see how it compares to a similar one last April when I recorded 4 consecutive air frosts from the 26th-29th and 3cm of lying snow early on the 29th.

Sky is clear, but the radar shows incoming snow.

It is snowing! Only a light shower but it's snow....

We had some heavy snow here. Left a slight covering on roofs and cars. Any precipitation that comes your way tonight should be all snow!

Dusting here! but always more likely to get snow now, than the warm 3 month Dec-Feb, as they are dominated by the Atlantic

The minimum of -2,3c last night was the lowest on record ( since 1977) here in the last week of April. It was also the first air frost since February 28th.

Another sleet/graupel/snow shower recently disarming the Solihull Snow Shield!

Dew Point around -2*C

Edit: the current shower is now producing rain/sleety rain
