She knows I love snow and I want to see at least something on the ground this Winter. So we have decided to make the journey.

She knows i love it to. I would do that as well if had not got the kids to sort out. So had to decided which night for somebody to have them so we could go lol.

I'd be delighted with 2cms here, 2mms more likely sadly.

I've been with her for 3 years and she's finally accepting my eccentricities towards the weather (not normally eccentric). We are getting there in a Honda Jazz with no snow tyres, with luck we will see some falling/settling snow, with more luck we will be able to get out of Buxton.

long way off, Sunday is looking an absolute washout! but you have a bit of elevation, so maybe wet snow at times for you? assume you are around 180m asl?

Only about 140 metres or so where I am.

My girlfriend lives a few miles away at 190 meters or so. Maybe a good excuse to go round there tomorrow!

chance anywhere before less cold air rolls in tomorrow midday, kinda similar to Fri 13th

25-30cms for Will! slow thaw starting Monday, most low elevations dusting with full thaw midday tomorrow

Had a snow shower about 4pm with mostly small flakes. There was a brief moment when some more graupeley stuff came down with it, which also for a brief moment whitened the ground, but it turned to liquid in seconds. There are still specks of it on some car roofs though. Think we'll be lucky to get a dusting here before the weekends out, and even that I'm not overly confident about. But the way I'm feeling right now, so what either way. It's something we've had already this Winter and at this late stage it's got to be a few cm's at least to peak my interest. That's looking very unlikely though for this cold spell. I won't be giving up hope though until late March or at least early to mid March if the outlook by that time looks too spring like.

BBC forecast has rain for me yet the latest METO has light snow most of the night? Who's right? Does the BBC lag behind?

last few runs/updates or so has suggested GFS snow, bbc rain, I going for bbc to be correct, setup does not seem to support snow

What do the METO use? Don't BBC use METO data?

But I think your right rain for us :(

Good invention......A switch that turns 25c 8) to -5c :cold: in one day

It doesn't work like that we have to bear the boring crappy bit in the middle I'm afraid.

Met office site this morning had sleet / rain for me tomorrow pm, now it's showing snow all the way as per GFS, so think Beeb forecast is lagging and wrong.

Lots of cloud moving in, but no precipitation. And we still can't get below freezing with -10 uppers, something is going wrong with our weather. These have been noticeable since 2013:

*Cold uppers not being reflected by ground-level temps. Uppers of -8 to -10 and +2 to +4 down below.

*Cold wind directions bringing milder air. It's been a constant theme with northerlies, now it's being forecast off an easterly too. What hope do we have for lasting cold and snow when this keeps happening?

*Cold synoptics not delivering. Connected to the two above.

*Temperatures not falling on clear nights. This has been the most unsettling of them all: it drops to freezing after sunset and then rises inexplicably during the night, it stays at 2C all night then drops briefly to -0.5 just before sunrise, or it constantly rises and falls between -2 and +2C. 2016/17 hasn't been as bad for this as the previous three (we got to -6C during that anticyclonic spell) but it is still happening.

*No really cold days. Only two days since March 2013 with a high below 2C, and none below 0C. Even the runs of mild winters from 1988-90 and 1998-2000 did better than that.

I hope this all gets sorted out this Feb/March!
