Showers coming from the east dying out as they travel inland!!

North East winds blowing over a cold North Sea.

-8 to -10 uppers.

Trough moving in from Scandinavia.

Only in the UK would that bring rain.

And the Sahara  gets snow this year can't make it up really.

It is incredibly difficult to get proper cold and snow in this country.

Anyway in the very short term. 

The E4 for tonight 0000 some snow showers moving inland for you lot only light. Maybe some folk, waking up to a dusting.

Never used to be though, everyone I know agrees, Stafford used to be so snowy, we all know something has changed, to allow cold spells to be less frequent and less cold, since the late 90's

I wish I could have conversations about the weather with everyone I know without them going, "Oh..yeah...right", then turning to talk to someone else.

I ruined this winter for the Midlands when I moved up from London. It's no coincidence that London has had its first snow in years.

did you not get any Thursday 12th/Fri 13th Jan? but again typical of the 2000's such a quick thaw it was unreal, Atlantic never moved in, thought mid Jan would be cold enough for no thaw

Can actually describe this as real light snow here, coming down at its heaviest yet. Still incredibly light though with no chance of accumulations even with the temperature being 0c with -1dp. BBC forecast has upgraded to 6 hours in a row of light snow later tonight too, maybe something is brewing in the North Sea...

all rain Sat PM though, for me, says few flurries tonight, Sat am, then rain Sat PM

All the more reason to enjoy Saturday am? Maybe back when we were spoiled for snow in 2010 I would dread the thaws but after 4 years of disgraceful winters I'm happy with any snow.

It really didn't/hasn't !

last two ecm ops make Midlands the sweet spot away from usual elevated areas.  But forecasting snowfall away from frontal incursions is generally poor .

Yes. BBC and Met going for 4C and rain on Saturday for mist lowland areas now. Latest forecast says wintry mix with some snow on eastern Pennines but nothing major. Models may be overplaying the amount of precipitation on Saturday.

Been a constant snow flurry for the last 3 hours !!!

its still building though. I think we METO have their eyes on it to, as our forecast has changed to light snow now during the night, let's hope the streamer builds and our forecast changes to heavy snow. The kids want an early start to half term!!

 

 

It built on the southern edge and gave us a dusting on cars and roofs so far

At odds with the ukm raw data, Saturday night/sun am !  seems late as met office expect the atmosphere to be unsupportive for snowfall by then.
