Good opportunities for snow across the east of the region during the rest of this week and the weekend. A lower risk for those of us further west I would think.

This upcoming cold spell starting to look like yet another damp squib according to quite a few posts on model thread.

Said by a very influential/leader within the mod/thread

"The outlook for the next week, let alone the rest of February is not going to be decided by one or two operational or even ensemble suites"

The problem with the model thread especially with cold/snow in the winter or sun/heat in the summer is some are obsessed with how long something will last before its even arrived. Give me a 24 hour snow day this weekend with the kids & it can be barbecue weather all next week for all I care. Sadly I think it will be cold this weekend with the odd snow shower but not enough power in the showers to warrant buying a sledge LOL

Saturday is one word...... WINTER  :cold: :yahoo:

V'good Synoptic Guidance from Matt Hugo

"Saturday wintry showers across eastern areas may well then progress further inland across England and Wales in particular during the day,

perhaps bringing several centimetres of snow to some areas" :D

Looking forward to this cold spell and hopefully a little bit of the white stuff falling from the sky will suit me just fine :-)

Not sure about that, look at thundery wintry showers post in MOD, dew points above zero on Saturday, to me it's looking wet rather than white, best snow chance is Friday

Only really for areas near to the North Sea coast. Further in land they should be low enough.

Hows latest gfs 18z?does it continue the snow threat on saturday?

not too bad, but need a hell of a lot of things right for snow! as chart on right brought pure rain, something must have been 'wrong'

Slight upgrade in terms of 850hpas. I think because it shows a straighter easterly.

North of the region best positioned on this run.

It's Tuesday evening and the weather is always evolving that's the great thing about it, ups and downs from now until around Thursday evening maybe Friday morning even (to see if we are in line for snow) ATM its up north, tomorrow it could be Friday not Saturday who knows, don't worry if the conditions are marginally not right or perfectly sound....just enjoy the ride :D nite

Yeah, remember that. Promised a band of snow pushing across only to get some drizzly stuff. I was actually like 'wtf'.

Spring looks like springing next Tues, really could feel decent if any sun, out of wind, shorts out, Feb sun, much warmer than Dec/Jan

For me spring can wait. Most of the year gives a decent chance of warmth. Whereas cold opportunities are more limited. Although March and even April can bring cold and snowy weather*.

*Post excludes Stoke-on-Trent, where it is chilly and grey all year round ;-)

Yes Matt, would like a few flurries, but in Spring 'mode' now!

Think I'll be in spring mode after this, bit of warmth how nice would that be. Obviously after loads of snow, very doubtful on that front lol

GFS continues to tease and seemingly upgrade the snow risk for Saturday.

A case of the low resolution making a few scattered flurries look like a nationwide blizzard? Or may we actually see a decent dumping?

I guess we won't have a better idea until it comes into the range of the higher resolution models.
