Weather warning for wind today, where has this come from? wasn't forecast was it? The met office hourly for today is giving me gusts of 60mph

It's for the squall line that went through earlier and produced some tornadoes over Wales

Was on the golf course as it 'flew' through here. The temperature dropped from 10 to 8C and is now down to 4.2C

As the wind drops away we could see a frost later in the night.

The squall line earlier today has grounded all of the helicopters at RAF Shawbury.

The Met team there are usually warned of inclement weather, so that they can prep their choppers with rotor brakes. The weather event today escalated so quickly that the ground crew didn't have a chance to make the heli rotors safe!!

Shawbury Met recorded a max gust of 75kts today.

We had torrential rain around 11am, and it was a little windy but nothing exceptional. Yet just down the road, there was a damage from winds in Meir (supposedly a tornado but looks straight line to me!).

Damn that mild sector for Sunday morning :wallbash: that would have potential to be a good event for higher ground in the Midlands. If only that mild sector would kindly shift 50-100 miles further East

As for tonight, feels absolutrly bitter out there at 4c. A nice streamer has set up from the Bristol channel but sadly, as is often the case down here in Oxford, temp is too high :sorry:

Looks like it died a death by the time it hit you 94 mph gusts in the west.

At RAF Shawbury gusts of up to 84mph were recorded.

Shortly after 11.30am emergency services all became inundated with calls that roads all over the region were blocked.

The mother of all squalls from nothing.

Wet snow showers during the early hours of this morning but the only evidence of lying snow is a layer of frozen slush on the car windscreens. Sir William Hill near Eyam is gleaming white in the morning sunshine though.

Small amount of snow here in Birmingham is the cold air interacting with the low pressure pushing north?

Just the PPN hitting the colder air over the Midlands at the moment. Higher ground like parts of Birmingham will probably get some sleet/wet snow for a few hours before the mild sector hits in the early hours.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
