William Blake : The Fly

Little fly,

Thy summer’s play My thoughtless hand Has brushed away

.Am not I A fly like thee?

Or art not thou A man like me?

For I dance And drink and sing,

Till some blind hand Shall brush my wing.

If thought is life And strength and breath,

And the want Of thought is death,

Then am I A happy fly, If I live, Or if I die.

William Blake (1757-1827) P. 1793

There was a young sailor named Bates

Who danced the fandango on skates

But a fall on his cutlass

Had rendered him nutless

And practically useless on dates.

And who are you, the proud lord said,
That I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
That's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
A lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
As long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
That lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
With no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
And not a soul to hear.

After some years i have just read the   Hunting of the Snark     it was nonsense  the first time around  however this time  it did make my mind wonder   and there are many hidden meaning.   The poem its self is to long to post on here   however here are two   snippets  that may sound silly    but a little thought and it may mean something profound

"'But oh, beamish nephew, beware of the day,
If your Snark be a Boojum! For then
You will softly and suddenly vanish away,
And never be met with again!'

In the midst of the word he was trying to say,
In the midst of his laughter and glee,
He had softly and suddenly vanished away —
For the Snark was a Boojum, you see.
