Hi, this month has been quite remarkable for the longevity of the easterly winds, especially at a time of year when zonality starts to rage.

I dont think we have had more than a few days so far this month where the winds have not been coming from the east. With at least another 2 days of easterly winds looking likely, is this looking like the most 'easterly' October on record. If not, does this month contend for the 'least westerly' October on record? It appears that when not coming from the east, winds have either been still, or coming directly from the south.

Another one for weather archive enthusiasts - what has happened to subsequent winters of other Octobers which have featured a lot of easterly winds?

TIA

Think it links to the AO-NAO and I believe where on for the most negative on record. Anyhow 2009+2012 had well negative AO also. The latter being very cold the former slightly so but March coldest in 60+ years.

Even more significantly, October 2016 will be the warmest easterly October on record in the same way that August 2006 was the warmest northerly August on record.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
