This is turning into a notably dry October here in the Lake District. I suspect we are running around two thirds below normal average rainfall we would expect to see in a normal October at this stage. The outlook is forecast to be predominantly dry as well. Would be good to see how others are doing on the rainfall front. It could end up an unusual month with parts of the SE and East Anglia wetter than Cumbria.. given the predominant easterly feed.

We've only had one bout of heavy rain overnight Monday and through Tuesday, otherwise its been very shortlived showers and many of these just a few spots.

24.1mm recorded this month so far. Been very dry which I must admit has been much better than the wet Autumn and Winter we had last year.

I'm not surprised because of the persistent easterly(ish) wind.
Meanwhile here near the North Sea we've had plenty of showers again today bringing the month to 52mm which is on the high side for this point considering month average is about 70mm

This isn't especially clear but shows last 30 days wind direction, though plenty of days with SW flow the easterlies are much higher than normal and even when wind was from the other way it was often continental in origin.

We've only had 17mm so far this month, way down on normal which should be around 105mm for the month as a whole. On average October is the wettest month of the year around here, closely followed by August, November & December. Looks like quite a few dry days coming up as well, so cannot see us even getting half of the October average come November.

We're on 82mm already, which is nearly 140% of the monthly average. We've had rain on every day but one this month and three days with more than 10mm.

Total rainfall here is 36.5mm against the average of 59mm (around 62%). Most ppn for the month is the same as everyone else on this side of the country - showers blown in on that nagging easterly wind.

33.6 mm here so far this month, that's 47% of average for the first 20 days of October.

A possibility it could be the driest October since 1978 for England and Wales.

Just wait until The Express runs a 'UK heading for hosepipe bans!' story and then it rains continuously for six months.

And we all know what happened in the following winter!  (Not that I'm seriously suggesting there's any significant connection between the two.)

It looks likely to be the driest October since 2007 here when the total for the month was 33.4 mm, the second driest on record. 1978 was the driest  with 26.3mm.

Although it's rained on 16 days so far only 34.4mm of rain 41% of normal so far. Sames as TM driest October since 2007 so far. Unlikely to be the driest autumn on record which was 1975 with only 93.7mm. Suspect we will get into the top ten of driest Autumns.

Very dry month a total of 35.5mm of Rain. However with only just over 20 mm required to beat the all the time Autumn record it's very unlikely to reach number one spot. So driest since 2007. The driest Autumn of course was 1975 with only 93.7mm.  The next driest 1964 with 98.8mm. So it may possibly beat 2007 which had 110mm

Well the chances of the driest autumn disappeared a few days ago and certainly has gone today with 36mm of rain so far. Just needs to get over 40.2mm and it nudge into the top ten of wettest days recorded here.

Its the wettest Autumn since 2002 already here. October finished on 89.0mm (150%) and November is on 97.0mm so far (156%). Everyday but one has had rain so far this month.

We're only 68mm behind Autumn 2000.

Yesterday brought a total of 48.1mm of rain pushing the total for November over 100mm. A little more today but again demonstrates that large falls of rain aren't very rare.

The generally dry weather which began in September has continued until the present. The second half of 2016 was the driest second half of any year here since 1995 and had it not been for the large fall on November 21st it would have been the driest second half on record.  384.1 mm was recorded from July to December this year compared to 366.0 mm over the same period in 1995. 12% of  2016's second half  total was recorded on November 21st.
