Winds along fronts

Recommended Posts

Hi, on the BBC weather forecast charts they often show a very narrow ribbon of wind blowing along a front, towards the centre of the low.  Is this a real effect, and if so how is it formed ?  I did get up to degree level meteorology ( 34 years ago) and remember that fronts are much more complicated than the simple models of just warm air rising over cold air at a warm front, and cold air burrowing under warm air at a cold front.  Thanks very much

Wasn't quite surre if this is the right place to post it...mods please feel free to move it, but I've just started an OU short course as an introduction to meteorology. It's free and it last 3 weeks. Start date was yesterday and it takes minutes to register. Thought some members might be interested, I accessed it through their future learn page
