Exactly how close to Miami is Matthew going to hit?  On the webcams on Miami beach their are loads of people in the sea

unless Matthew takes another weird turn, Miami will only see tropical storm conditions. However, riptide conditions will occur so they are foolish in the extreme

Just watching Fox news and only 1/3 of people have left the danger zones so life goes on as normal, i just hope that is not a big mistake

Miami should escape the worst of it but will still experience trop storm conditions with hurricane force gusts. Imo the biggest danger area is from West Palm Beach northwards.

Your kidding me, what the hell are they thinking. Surely they should have been heading west a while ago.

Thinking about it I'm not even sure where Miami is, sounds like it is west, by this.

It looks like Miami will be far enough south to miss the worst of the storm (definitely wouldn't go swimming though!), but most of the coast northwards is in for a rough ride. It will be interesting to see the storm surge levels in places like Jacksonville and Savannah, with all that water being piled up from the south.

I thought the Bahamas might have been let off the hook somewhat but it looks like New Providence/Nassau has taken a direct hit. The death toll in Haiti is rising as well. And it's still not over after Matthew curves away from the US because it's expected to curve all the way back again, albeit in a weakened state. Some hurricane this.

I thought that. I mean it doesn't look to bad there at the moment but even so. Why risk it?  On the beach in lauderdale as well. We're ever that is

I hope it doesn't make landfall further south than thought, it's on the east coast south of where landfall is expected.

And Fort Lauderdale is just to the north (part of the same conurbation). A real let-off for them, as was Andrew to some extent (Homestead just to the south bore the brunt of the Category 5 storm and got flattened).

So what area should we be looking for webcams for? My friends live that way and I'd like to keep an eye on it.

Matthew had a big wobble coming off the Bahamas, which may have saved a few dollars up and down!!

I don't think he's finshed with his unexpected tricks yet though!!

What is it with people. Jacksonville pier people going in the sea. Really starting to look rough

need a good wash..

SURF: Swells generated by Matthew will continue to affect portions of the north coast of Cuba and the Bahamas during the next few days, and will spread northward along the east coast of Florida and the southeast U.S. coast through the weekend. These swells will likely cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.

It's taken a bit of a northwards turn but it's still expected to make landfall further north in Florida. That's what the latest NHC update says anyway.

They'll get a good tumble dry too when (if) they get back out.

This is what the NHC's latest update says. Pretty much unchanged from earlier. They posted it only half an hour ago.
