Fort Lauderdale webcam shows an incoming heavy band of rain approaching the beach.

Whilst down the coast at Key Largo, the folks there are wandering around like any other day, weird.....

In the same way that whenever there's an eruption we lament people for living next to a volcano, tomorrow we may well see why living on the Florida coast is potentially idiotic.

Just like living in the Midwest is potentially idiotic with the risk of tornadoes - and tornadoes, although smaller in size, cause more damage to individual structures. You can outrun a hurricane with warning prior, but a tornado is harder to predict.

Or living in Seattle is potentially idiotic when we all know that entire region will potentially be left to ruin when a magnitude 9 earthquake strikes.

These towns and cities have been inhabited for hundreds of years, life goes on. Floridians have plenty of experience in this area.

incredible how fast the weather is deteriorating, and the landfall is a long time off yet.

I wonder what this will look like tommorow at the same time.??

there are an awful lot of boats still moored out in the harbour? With a guaranteed warning I would have thought these would have been brought in and tied down. No guaranteed those moorings will hold and the boats will drag them in those expected 140mph winds. Is there time still to move them? Or do you think there is a slight "insurance" expectation here?

Seems to have improved weatherwise on the south beach. Camera's not wobbling as much.

Various planes have recently taken off. Notable is mission 29 which since its in Florida is pretty close to the action already.

Matthew seems to have developed a dual eye wall. It will be interesting to see recons findings but two eye wall wind peaks is obviously not ideal particularly as the outer wall is very large and would go inland quite aways.

Maybe 165mph in gusts defo 140mph last recon not sure where Gav has seen that, Somebody mentioned a double eye wall developing doesnt that mean the end of an episode of intensification, if so that would mean it stays at Cat4.
