Monday night/tuesday morning looks like delivering the first widespread air frost of the season. Some notably low mins could be recorded over scottish highlands.

Coldest night of the season so far expected for many tonight. Somewhere may end below -6 degrees, whilst nothing especially remarkable, still quite noteworthy.

We even managed our first air frost of the season this morning with a min of -0.2C. Its actually pretty early compared to recent years. In fact, in the last 20 years only 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008 had an earlier frost (all in October). As far as November goes, you have to go back to 1995 for an earlier frost.

We fell to -0.3C last evening but then it clouded over and the temperature rose.

Would be interested to know who hasn't experienced an air frost so far this season. I suspect much of lowland Northern Britain has at least. What is the lowest min so far for London Heathrow?

We had another sparkling air frost last night.

Looks like Heathrow did get an air frost last week, with a minimum of around -1: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/city?LANG=en&WMO=03772&ART=MIN&CONT=ukuk&R=0&LEVEL=150&REGION=0003&LAND=UK&NOREGION=0&MOD=&TMX=&TMN=&SON=&PRE=&MONAT=&OFFS=&SORT=

Here in Reading we had a minimum that day of -1.6 (-1.8 at the nearest official station at the university). It seems that here in Reading we've been getting our first air frost in the second week of November (which is spot on average for the area) remarkably consistently in recent years - I think this must be about the fifth year in a row.

Air frost in October seems almost impossible these days. It seemed to happen regularly in the 1990s, perhaps my memory is affected by the very frosty Octobers of 1992 and 1993 but it seemed normal then. October was definitely a "cold-season" month, it isn't nowadays.

In spring, April and May frost is still just as common however- it's only at the one end that the frost season as shortened.

First air frost already down to -1.1c

First and only air frost last November -1.4c on the 23rd December was just a warmout.

Temps got down to 0.7C at 19:20 now back up to 1.3C so 50/50 if we get an air frost or not. Considering November has been a cold month it's amazing we haven't had an air frost.

Well that's the coldest November night for 6 years and that won`t be beaten easily in 2010 but an impressive -3.6c coldest night for 2 years.

-5.5c last night (in countryside near Alton, Hampshire).

First proper frost since Winter 2014/15. Last year we had 2 frosts in total, this year we've already had 3 nights at or below 0c. Not bad for Autumn.

Tonight may dip to -6c, all things being equal.

Not counting, but suspect we've had more ground frosts this autumn than during whole of last winter. Had quite a number of air frosts this November as well. We were below freezing already this evening at just 4.45pm, currently -1 degrees, but temps are set to climb from now on thanks to cloud encroaching.
