Tornadoes hit Wales and the Midlands, aparently

Difficult to ascertain for now whether there were tornadoes causing this reported damage or just strong straight-line winds from the squall line based on anecdotal rather than pictorial evidence, though wouldn't be surprised there were tornadoes. 94mph gust at the RNLI weather station in Aberystwyth is astonishingly strong and unlikely to be synoptic driven and surprised it would be straight line wind gust either. Will have a look at the radar images for the time it went through places which reported tornadoes.

I somehow managed to be in a gap/break in the squall line when it came through the SE, lol:

Twitter search brings up a .gif video recorded in Aberystwyth today showing a trailer rolling over, SLW indicative from this as from initial reports it seems quite a wide swathe of the town was affected.

Sferics here around an hour ago as squall line moved through.  Winds became gusty, rain heavy with hail and seemingly two cells of sferics, one to my north, one to the south.

Radar between 1035 and 1045 shows a 'hook' coming ashore just north of Aberystwyth - the hook then maintains across Wales and N Midlands all the way to the Lincolnshire coast some 3 hours later!! Could have been multiple spin ups or tornado touch downs in this time within the hook:

1035.PNG

Hook appears to be where the 'triple point' was in the frontal system, an area well-known in the storm-chasing community for strong ascent, shear and tornadoes

Most damaging prolonged squall I`ve ever seen storm force winds, lasted about 15 to 20 minutes after normal wind well we`ve had little wind all autumn.

Roofs have been  blown off in a nearby village.

Half a beech tree blown down along with 6 or 7 branches.

Well it doesn't look like straight line winds, to me, things are moving in different directions. Doesn't look like a tornado either though unless it was very wide.

That is just down to eddies due to how the building is positioned. :)

Don't think the north sea is somewhere I want to be right now. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=radar;sess=

That band looks very dangerous.
