I can confirm the cell in Northamptonshire as the bright lightening woke me up. However it's gone quiet for now and I think that's because it's only just gone up, it might be a sign of storms about to break out elsewhere between the cold front and further east.

Anyone from Basingstoke still on here?

Yes I am sat just to the SW of Basingstoke. Holy crap just saw another massive CG. So much pent up energy being released tonight.

Watching too, dd you see that great GC into the sea a few minutes ago?

The one to the right? that was a belter, beads of plasma coming off it for those few thousands of a seconds after it dissipated. Would be interesting to find out wether any Fulgurites are found in the coming few days on the southern beaches.

Shower popped up in North/Central London, could this be the initiation? Sounds like a rap album.

I am still out here and sat just outside Basingstoke where I have been for the past hour. Unbelievable thunder and lightning, bolts, shotgun thunder and torrential rain. This reminds me if the storms i remember as a kid! It's still going too. I am so happy, despite the fact I have to be at work tomorrow and will be so tired!!!

Pop in for a cup of tea if you like. I'm up, photographing lightning. Bring biscuits.

small areas of convection popping up in the Midlands now, hopefully self-sustaining and will grow into something more substantial as forecasted by 4am.

Just driven Southbound on A34, spectacular lightning show but the driving was ridiculous, bit hairy at times!

Lightning seems to have died down a little other than the occasional very close strike but the rain rate has increased dramatically, local roads have surface flooding

What is your best lens for capturing lightning btw? Im not the best at quick captures, I like still objects when I take photos.

That looks just about it for here. Two hours of thunder & lightning, then a massive downpour to finish it off!  Very happy! Laie_19.gif

These aren't quick captures, it's fairly long exposure and the lens was standard issue with the camera (an entry level EOS1200D) It's the widest angle lens I have to hand. I'm using a canon 18-55mm zoom lens which is currently in need of a good service, on manual shooting with the setup being anywhere between 30-60 second exposure, F/stop between 11 and 16, ISO 200. And of course I have a shutter release cable attached. These settings seem to work for me; that said I am happy to hear advice from others which may help improve the process. I'm just experimenting at the moment and it's the first time I've had a decent lightning photo result.

Woken up by some very bright lightning and heavy rain. Cat sat by the open window purring away, she loves a storm like me!
