Hi x I can hear distant thunder too, it's so relaxing to listen to! I don't have work tomorrow so I'm hoping for a good storm as I don't have to get up early.

I usually love it but i'm worried it will wake the kids. Plus both kids are having me up at 3/4/5am at the minute annnnd tomorrow night we have to be up at 4 for a flight from Birmingham! So I'm hoping for a good night lol.

Seen a few random lightning flashes to the S/SW over the last half hour. Sky looks amazing, the moon lighting up some lovely clouds.

I'm quite a big fan of this site, when the lightning is fairly close-by anyway. It shows the expanding soundwave ot the thunder and has been pretty accurate tonight.

Don't often see wording like that from the Met Office. If it comes off I wouldnt be surprised to see a red warning tomorrow.

Severe drizzle incoming.

Is that what the circle is around the lightning? Impressive!

Anyone else noticed how the storm that tracked up over NW Scotland in the early hours this morning is still spitting out sferics and is now approaching E Iceland!

The only reason they issued an amber alert is for the areas in which they had already received hefty rainfall rates from storms earlier.

And me I'm smack bang in the middle of it..

Sometimes we have to be careful for what we wish for..

Although this if it does go off could be something to remember

I was wishing for some thunder and lightning, not to be cast as Evan Almighty!

Don't forget your MW radios peeps, there's a lot of strikes not shown on lightning detectors online, your average MW radio will detect local strikes up to 20 miles away.

Just tune to a weak station and listen!! After a while you can also tell the difference between CG and IC strikes, CG's sound like a sudden crack and IC's crackle!!!

That how I used to tell if a storm was close by. No need for webcams and radars. Ah, the innocent good old days :)

Good luck to all those in the far south who are or will get something this evening. It seems odd to me that the forecasts are still suggesting there could be storms in the Midlands overnight when there's been absolutely no sign of anything happening north of the M4 in the past 5 hours?

Yes that's correct, the Amber region really got hit hard earlier by most reports, leaving the ground and drainage systems extremely saturated. It's by no means an indication that this area will be hit any harder than the surrounding areas.

I pretty much guessed that but all joking aside, the Amber warning from the Met Office is surely one that needs to be taken seriously ?  That's some fairly hefty rain totals they are suggesting as possible in a very busy part of the country.
