'Loud explosions' reported near M61 - M65 motorways junction in Lancashire, England - Lancashire Telegraph.
Truck fire cause of loud noises, smoke at M65 junction in Lancashire, England, fire officials say

Must have been one heck of a explosion to have heard it all the way down here near Buxton.

The strong caping inversion  we have today can help extend the range of sounds  I believe, perhaps that had something to do with it.

I thought I heard  what sounded like a large boom  before, but I wasn't concentrating and had the windows closed so cannot be sure.  I certainly thought I heard  something strange, as I feel really on edge  afterwards for some reason.

Funny you should say that, i got woken up by a loud thunder sounding boom yesterday morning.

Available to chase tomorrow, but where I am in north Cambridgeshire looms to be a possible sweetspot! Also has forecasts of it continuing to bang on through the night too! Here's hoping.

Suddenly getting very dark over west where that photo is from...

Which direction are you looking? If you are looking southwest you could be seeing developments near Coventry where some sferics are now being detected.

Edit: If they are heading north I may be in the firing line.
