Good Morning Everyone,

After a cloudy, rather misty start the sun has just started to break through the clouds.

Last week my wife and friends visited Hanningfield Reservoir Nature Reserve here in central Essex. When she returned home she commented upon the very low water level. It was the lowest she had seen the Reservoir for a good number of years. Her comments got me thinking and I cannot recall a decent rainfall for many weeks. Early summer we had a number of thunderstorms, but since it has been missing most of the heavy shower activity experienced elsewhere and any fronts that have passed through have been very weak affairs with only a little rain of deizzle on them.

Unfortunately I do not have a weather station and I am just basing my comments on what I have observed. Does anyone in the area have rainfall figures for the past 3 months and how they compare with the average.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Dave

Hi Dave. The Met Office rainfall anomaly charts for July, Aug and Sept 2016 confirm Essex has been drier than normal versus the long-term 1961 - 1990 average. August particularly dry with some areas seeing only 20% to 33% of usual rainfall.

There was I think an article in the local Evening Echo, about the lowness of the water, it is well down.

To which an "expert" said not to worry its the rainy season and normal ;levels will resume soon.......

Well not so sure about that looks very blocked for a while.

Well we certainly have fog! High Wycombe has disappeared and that can only be a good thing :D.I think that's the fourth fog morning here this month but this is the most dense/prolonged.

re: Rainfall, I'm sure they said on the BBC forecast parts of the south had only had 20/30% of expected rainfall this month. I bought a water butt for my allotment...but there's nothing to put in it.

Shame about Southwold being knocked about, I would have thought that part of town would have been a conservation area? Parking at the town centre hotels is tricky...that's why we stay at the Randolph (and they do smashing breakfasts!).

Delighted to see the fog lingering here this morning as I'm told fog in October is a good sign of a cold Winter ahead.

Must be true surely? :yahoo:

I use it to see what kind of winter we can expect, old weather lore, so it must be right:unsure2:

LOVE LOVE LOVE this weather currently... DRY with no wind or rain and not to cold... Long may it continue!

Being able to go out for Runs/Walk dogs and participate in outdoor events in late October into November and stay dry = Perfect.

Another Dry weekend coming up - For those of us that work in the week.. This means a lot :) - Making the most of every minute before the wet and mild weather arrives into November.

I have two, front and back can't look after either myself, and neither can hubby, so we employ a gardener.
