Bicester, Oxfordshire Storm, 27/08/2016

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

After looking at the gfs charts on netweather and reading Tony Gilbert's outlook, I decided to drive to Bicester, Oxfordshire.

I arrived at about 2.15pm and then found out I had just missed a storm, I then looked at the radar and realized a massive mcs was taking place. After half an hour and seeing a couple of distant
lightning strikes I decided to drive further up the road. I was not disappointed to see a great gust front in the bucknell area and found a spot to park.

The video shows everything I saw, including the large chunk of tree half way along what I think is called Bicester Road, in Bucknell ?. I then went on to Northampton, Peterborough and ended up in hunstanton to see a departing storm out to sea. Spoke to a chap on the beach at Hunstanton and he said he had never seen a storm like it before.

Video here, apologies for the rain and wipers, watch in 1080p full screen if available:

There are some large hail reports in the Oxford Mail :

I also live in Hunstanton and went down to the beach just before the big storm here, and I can back up the mans word, the town has most definitely not seen a storm like it in a very long time. Localised flooding in a few minutes with constant flashes and a low rumble that lasted a good 10-15 minutes.
